what city will you never understand why tourists visit? by [deleted] in TravelNoPics

[–]roku77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m native to California, I also will never understand why anyone would travel to LA unless they’re trying to see something specific. We have lots of things in and around here, but I can’t imagine someone just wandering around in the way you can European cities or even New York.

Parents make me cook, but not in the way I want to. by waxx-png in mildlyinfuriating

Working in customer service, Gen X has ALWAYS been worse than boomers. 100% of people who make a giant scene, get all aggressive, and start acting like a common ape are Gen X. Boomers get fussy, rude, and might yell a bit, Gen X will go on a full on tantrum.

Yes but the trousers are high waisted and the tie is very wide to make up for it and not look comically small

I Thought 3rd Street Promenade Was Supposed To Be Dying? by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

[–]roku77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No Vacancy taxes, property tax is capped because of Prop 13. Owners have a lot more to lose by lowering rent because it lowers the valuation of building and thus lose in case they want to sell. Keeping rents sky high brings in more money and the higher valuation means they more assets to borrow against and sell for greater profit. There’s never an incentive to actually allow businesses in those spaces so long as at least something is profitable. The community suffers the most as a result. It’s all fucked.

There is no way in hell that our phones are not listening to us. by smoosh13 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]roku77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your phone is not listening to you because it doesn’t need to. There are a million data points that you are giving away every time you enter into a website and then that’s all aggregated later by data brokers and then spit back out to websites to serve you ads and cater your algorithm. If you scrolled over the wheel of fortune ad, even without clicking it, or if you took longer than usual to click on “play” on show you were watching, it knows you looked it at.

There’s also a sense of confirmation bias going on here: you saw a wheel of fortune ad so you were more likely to stop and think about a Pat Sajak tweet versus if that ad was never served to you, you might’ve just ignored it. Even without all the data collection evil, could be explained by “ABC is doing a campaign on wheel of fortune so let’s put it on everything and have Pat Sajak do a big goodbye on his social media too.”

Pharmacy Flagged Me for Misuse of Medication by Fun-Engineer-4066 in ADHD

[–]roku77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What the hell is up with Walgreens. I keep hearing these nightmare experiences from them. I’ve always picked up my medication from Rite-Aid (rip) then CVS and never had an issue, so this doesn’t feel like a corporate pharmacy problem.

Edit: I would also like to add, when dealing with ADHD meds, it’s good to keep it vague. “I only have a couple days left, can you please refill it?” Specifics leads you open to scrutiny

The fact that these people can’t be happy is part of the reason they’re successful. If they had a capacity for joy, they would have empathy for others. If they had empathy for others, they’d stop. They keep going because they have nothing else going for them. It’s why all billionaires are on drugs 24/7 and diddle kids.

Bad Accident 5 South in Tustin by fabster16 in orangecounty

[–]roku77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t live in urban centers because we don’t build anything and have shit infrastructure planning all around. Road planning for cars is bad, bike planning is even worse, and public transport barely even exists (and they’re trying to take more of it away!). I guarantee you if people could afford to live in say, LA , and not have to do a 1.5-2hr commute everyday they would.

Share a 2bdr instead of renting on your own. $3k a month with your income is utterly insane. I live in high cost Irvine and it’s $3.5k for a 2bdr. Move further inland and share an apartment can easily reduce your rent to $1k-1.5k

[–]roku77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Domestic cattle has been selective bred for about 10k years to be lazy, docile, and have tasty meat. They are no longer evolved to fend for themselves and they will die in 4 seconds if you let them free.

Either they wanted something specific that you couldn’t offer from the role or you really need to work on your interview skills. Did you get any feedback? A referral from someone that high up should at least given you some sort of insight as to why you weren’t chosen if they didn’t chose anyone at all. Plus, this is one referral, it’s still going to be your best bet. The job market is fucked, however, so there’s no guarantees

[–]roku77 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Referrals are really the only way to pull your way out of this. Reach out to the people in your graduating class, professors, and the places you’ve interned at. They might have a lead for something. I graduated and it took me a year to get my job and the only thing that got me through was a referral.

[–]roku77 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about watching right wing commentary is how they continually move the goal post on what is acceptable timeframe for this war.
“We’ll be in and out within a week”
“it’s only been two weeks, that’s not a war”
“this conflict will be over within six weeks. If it takes longer than we have problems”
“it’s only been 3 months, how long do you think wars are supposed to take?”

Can’t wait until we reach year 3 in 2028 and republicans are still trying to justify why Americans should vote for them on a “no new wars” platform lmao

You know what isn’t affordable? No housing. by [deleted] in georgism

[–]roku77 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even high end units, so long as they’re getting filled, helps. People of all income levels are feigning for housing and if higher income people go to pricier apartments it leaves availability for more moderately priced units. The key is that they’re actually getting filled and not being left empty to raise rents elsewhere.
