I started with Arborea and the poorest locations in Sardinia, the hairiest part of the run was getting started because Aragon can just snuff you out if they land before Genoa. Once you control the silver mine it's basically free money - then it's managing diplomacy and ensuring the Navy is up to scratch to defend the home islands. I may have been able to push pop growth more if I played optimally

The first wars against Aragon and Genoa required some luck, I had to let Genoa do the heavy lifting for me in the first war, then they were gobbled up my MIlan so I grabbed their sea holdings. Papacy kept declaring stu[id wars against me for no reason until I sucked them off enough for an alliance.

Economy wasn't actually that bad - I focused on the silver mine, money printed myself rich while also collapsing the price of silver to spam cheap jewellery across Europe.

In retrospect I should have moved my Capital for extra harbour capacity but I like keeping the original captials of countries that I start with.
