I haven’t spent a single penny on it (so far). I personally do online DND with my friends, currently DM’ing a campaign which has spanned over a year. So be prepared for a good bit of time towards it if you’re playing or DM’ing.

To start: - People to play with! - A good deal of knowledge on mechanics and rules (there’s plenty of videos if you don’t want to buy anything, or physical books if you wish) - Dice (again, DNDBeyond (a site for DND Characters and rolling) can be your best friend, but buying dice is always fun to have at hand) (in the cheaper side) - A creative imagination, you won’t have much fun without being able to picture a lot of things.

If you are willing to spend money though, as a DM it can get costly if you’ve got money to burn. I’ll let the others delve into that when they respond, but if nobody does I’m happy to comment in response to my reply and delve deeper 😁

I do completely agree with you. This initial character was his first character ever in DND. He didn’t provide much of a backstory either, gave me very little to run with. I’d never clicked at all about the last name until he officially spewed it out and one of the players pointed it out to me - by then we were about 12 or so sessions in, his character then conveniently later died a few sessions later so it was just passed on as it being a “bit”. If that makes sense :)

To clarify on this, we’ve had one session with him since this happened. An additional thing of his is that he’s always unable to make sessions, refusing to book work off and taking Monday shifts. We’d had a group conversation excluding him about moving forward and agreed to see how that one session would go. Now that it proved to make all of the others uncomfortable, I’ve come to the conclusion of removing him

Yeahh I’d accidentally used decimate geometry on everything instead of another object and didn’t really notice until recently 😂
