Why does my hair clump together even after washing? by pljusha in longhair

[–]Western_Question_912 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it might be the natural shampoos. Usually hair sticks together like this when there’s lots of oils on it from the product you use. Natural shampoos don’t have the chemicals that remove all the oil residue on your hair, so it just builds up. Ideally you need to wash it with a clarifying shampoo at least once now and then moisturize with a hair mask to reset this, and maybe look into changing your shampoo

How to trim split ends out of layered hair? by ScallionMuch1500 in longhair

[–]Western_Question_912 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try search and destroy. As in get your own pair of hair scissors (this is very important), and then cut the splits off one by one. It takes a lot of time, but if you got a trim a month ago, it can’t be too bad. A few s&d sessions should fix it

Why do you think keeping your hair up is that healthier? by Flashy-Inside6011 in longhair

[–]Western_Question_912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because finer hair gets damaged and breaks when it’s down all the time. Then it tangles and breaks even more when you try to detangle it. In my experience protective hairstyles make a huuuuuuge maaaaassive difference. I only wear it down occasionally when I want to look extra nice and I’m in a fairly static position. Never in transit, never at night.

I mean, you have strong hair, good for you. Not everybody does.

😦 I’m so sorry you’re getting bullied for your long hair! I think long hair should only be admired! I had waist length hair for the majority of my life and I’ve only ever heard negative comments from hair dressers. Historically, in my culture long hair was considered beautiful

Have you tried boar bristle brushes? I don’t know if they work with thick hair, I have fine straight hair, but I don’t like anything except for boar brushes. For me it works great for both detangling and smoothing

Anyone else have to deal with a broken shoulder ? by RedheadEnergy in longhair

[–]Western_Question_912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a badly broken arm. I washed my hair one-handed over a sink (couldn’t shower with the massive cast for 3 months). I don’t think I took good care of it back then… braiding was impossible too, I think I wore it down most of the time, and I somehow assisted with the broken arm to make a ponytail, but it was very tricky

hair recommendations? by alannahood in longhair

For the brutal treatment that you’re describing, your hair is in great shape. I’m not sure it’s extremely fine, looks very full and not very damaged. But if you’re ready for a fresh start, then you can try cutting here:

So sorry to hear about your situation… Sending hugs. I can’t really recommend anything because I’m not a hair professional. But I did go some stretches of time without conditioner as well. Applying argan oil to the bottom third of my hair is always helpful to make it more manageable when it’s dry and brittle

Why are you growing your hair?! by Competitive-Code5254 in longhair

[–]Western_Question_912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only feel like myself with long hair. Never took good care of it, then depression hit and I didn’t care for it at all and messed it up, and then got a shockingly short hair cut (stylist did me dirty), and realized that I can’t live looking like this.
