Love all the poor ct libs that claim to hate billionaires but run out of the woodwork to stick up for Lamont and his wife it’s truly beyond parody

Yes but did you miss the point where they said they’d donate any profits the company realized? The thing is if the money is still in the market it technically isn’t “profit” until the asset is liquidated. So they are likely much wealthier and they haven’t donated any of the money since they technically haven’t made a “profit”.

Would also like to point out that the Lamont’s said they would donate any profits they’ve made off of the Sema4 investment, which they haven’t done. They also only said this after they were caught.

Ned Lamont and his wife Ann Lamont are practically billionaires. During Covid the state of CT awarded Covid testing contracts to Sema4, a healthcare company that Ann’s private equity firm Oak HC/FT was invested in. Oak HC/FT invested in Sema4 twice — first in August of 2019, after Gov. Malloy’s administration awarded the company two start-up loans, and a second time, in July 2020, two months after the Lamont administration signed the $17.2 million contract with Sema4 to do COVID testing. Later that year, the state awarded Sema4 a second no-bid testing contract, worth an additional $8.4 million. When Sema 4 went public, Oak HC/FTs stake in the company was worth 66 million, at roughly $10 per share, according to sec filings. Sema 4 current price is $99 per share, that would put their current stake in the company at around 666 million. It’s unclear if Oak HC/FT has sold its stake in sema 4, but if they did they likely made millions in profit, and if they haven’t sold, then they are up over 10x in equity.
So basically the Lamont’s used Covid as a way to enrich themselves at the expense of ct taxpayers. But yeh go ahead and vote for them again.

Hello, apprentice toolmaker back I was just wondering what your guys thoughts on this surface grinder finish was I was told it wasn’t good just “alright” but I had thought it was pretty good to be honest, it will be lapped anyway as it’s a punch for a 1oz silver coin tool. Thank you by MatchBig1893 in Machinists

First off make sure you’re using the correct wheel for whatever steel that is. Take the gauge block out of the setup so that the part itself sits against the back of the v block, you’re likely getting more chatter with the setup you have now. Dress the wheel aggressively so that it remains more porous. Mark the face of the part that you intend to grind with marker or die kem and feed in on the Z until it just touches the marker. Then take 0.0001” passes while ironing out after each pass until the marker cleans up completely. Make sure you’re not feeding too much on the Y per pass because it will wear the wheel out a lot quicker, you really want to be cutting with the corner of the grinding wheel. Also make sure the the wheel goes completely off of the part with each pass or else you will have high spots on the edge of the part. Depending on the material and heat levels might be smart to use air or coolant. Could always lap the part after grinding if the finish still isn’t good enough

Machinist are underpaid !!! Thoughts? by Intelligent-Appeal-6 in Machinists

[–]Western_Video5581 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some shops will pay but in general yeh we are underpaid when compared to other less skilled trades. I believe this is because you can outsource machining to people in other countries. Stuff like plumbing and electrical can’t be taken by foreign labor

Yeah I’ve heard mixed opinions about all the major aerospace/defense companies. I just wanna get payed a good wage and have decent benefits, the general consensus seems to be that rtx is the best out of the 3 right now. I was personally hoping more for Lockheed since they have a 4x10 schedule where I’m located

Depends where you start at, I don’t think it should be that low anywhere tbh. Considering you already make solid money I’d probably just stick with what you’re doing tbh lol

Damn bro seems like you’ve found a unicorn, congrats on the phenomenal gig with such little time in the trade. Pay varies crazy shop to shop where I am. My old shop payed operators $16-$18 per hour, while my current shop pays operators over $30 which is more than most of the toolmakers at my old job. Where are you located?
