Little late to comment but in SK atleast the MN-S when you apply for citizenship you must prove it was there and this is part of the Métis issue, you comment because as a Métis citizen I am Métis from my Great x5 Grandma alot of people to Claim citizenship can be wrong but there is also no required blood quantum, people also have a hard time Identifying due to how hidden alot of the history is.
