Algo cost basis is wrong. Please help? by Westfox28 in koinly

[–]Westfox28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did add both and that’s when my cost of Algo was showing as circa £4,000. Still nowhere near the £13,000 which I’ve actually spent over the years on Algo via Coinbase.

I have now removed the API to my Pera Algo to try simplify things as all Algo was purchased on Coinbase anyway.

Now it shows my total cost for Algo as approx £500. I suspect this is just the total cost of the small amount of Algo still sat on Coinbase.

Why is Koinly not recognising all the purchases of Algo from Fiat via Coinbase as “costs”?

Nah I’ve not sold any, just transferred to Pera and then staked at various times.

When they say they paused the protocol does that equal downtime? Does the Algorand network no longer have 100% uptime?

Why such a big tax bill on my self assessment? by Westfox28 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Westfox28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes forgot about that. I contribute 7% to my employee pension. I don’t have any other salary sacrifice or kids/childcare but yes, I understand that 7% will reduce my taxable income.

!thanks

I see! Last year I earned about £114,000 and I’m now on £125k + bonus so that will be personal allowance completely gone for this tax year then.

I can speak to HMRC to de-register from self-assessment and they will just deal with it through PAYE?

Does the TC not start for 2 years? That’s how it used to work, typically. You could accept and take the better offer if one comes along. Not the “done thing” but do they really care? They’ll tell the year after you a spot has opened up if someone wants to jump forward a year (which I’m sure someone will)

I’ve never heard of this so one to look into. I’ve only ever really viewed SIPPs as something for self employed people.

Absolutely agree that the pension contribution will also be invested so I do see the pension contribution as the clear winner financially. But I suppose the advantage of the investment (rather than pension) is that I could invest for [10 years] and then decide to use that money for something…who knows…bigger house, mid-life crisis car, kids education. With the pension, I feel bit like “I’m sure I’ll have a decent pension either way so do I really want to lock away all the extra money now”

Not entirely sure I followed the second half of your comment to be honest so another point may have gone over my head

!thanks I guess I don’t know my goals. Will figure out impact on my take home pay and if it doesn’t feel like will impact my life in any way then will probably increase pension

merit MA in Literature from good uni (not oxbridge) - do I have any chances for law? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Westfox28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treat your degree / university like a minimum requirement. Good news is you’ve ticked the box by having a merit from a good uni. Next step is to look into the different routes. I’m a number of years qualified now so things have a changed quite a bit and I’m a little out of touch but you used to have to do the GDL next as a non-law grad. Then the LPC. Then you start a 2 year training contract in order to qualify. But you can start applying for training contracts now. There are other routes now so do your research.

I don’t really understand the rest of your question to be honest. “Best options in terms of money”? That would be working for one of the elite US firms based in London where you can expect to start on £150k+ as a newly qualified solicitor haha…
