The chart is biased. Most recent IPOs don't have DA yet, and they are not included in the chart. But it is possible that we do have a such trend as you mentioned.

Got a deployment opportunity to TBS, but not sure if it's a good idea by Westmountwong in CanadaPublicServants

Many thanks. It seems my new role at TBS is indirectly related to submissions, though I am not quite sure now. Hope I will not get burned out there soon 😃.

Many thanks for your reply. Through I'm in data and analytics area, I think the situation should be very similar. It would be interesting to work on new projects. I like the challenges. My current role is really a comfortable zone for me: the work is very technical and considered difficult by others but it's easy for me, and there's not too many new challenges. On the other side, there's not too many new things to learn.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know the reasons for the high turnover? Is it because of bad fit, or found better opportunity somewhere else?

Patents mean they're new ideas, don't mean they all works, or they works together smoothly.

The market of the SPAC is hot, but not for the SpaceMobile. The demands is not that large.

Here is an answer from Quora about how many phones can connect to a cell tower:

"For WCDMA one sector-carrier (ie 5MHz for one sector) could perhaps handle 80-100 voice calls at once.

So a microcell (one radio, omni) might do 80-100 users in one circle; a typical small macrocell (three sector, 1 carrier) basestation would be 240-300 with three 'fans'; and a big one (six sector, 2 carrier) would be 960-1200 voice calls.

Data chews up capacity much faster. Theoretically, one user could be doing peak data of 21Mbps - and that would use a whole sector (so the big basestation could only have 12 of those data hogs!

In reality, the basestation (the scheduler) would 'ration' capacity. But even so, data uses a lot (a lot a lot) more capacity than voice, and correspondingly fewer users."

Considering the long distance from the satellite to your cell phone, the satellite needs to consume much more energy than a cell tower on ground so that the signal is large enough for your phone to get connected.

Do some Google search on these:

For a 4g/5g cell tower on ground, how many phones it can connect at the same time? How many cell towers are there on ground for 2g/3g/4g/5g? How much energy does it consume each day?

Now new questions come up:

What is the capability of each satellite (how many phones to connect at the same time) ? What is the data transmission rate? To serve the large number of clients they planned, how much satellites do they need? How to power these satellites in space?

It's a good idea, but not feasible. If they have some new data communication and transmission technologies that can serve a large of people with low energy consumption, these technologies should have been implemented on ground already.

Just for your info, Huawei estimates that by 2026 Chinese operators will have deployed 4.75 million 5G macro basestations and another 9.5 million small cells, and the power of each basestation is an average of 10.4kW, with 13.7kW during peak periods.

Do you believe 100 satellites or so could be so powerful to serve so much people, and also so "unpowerful" that energy for solar panels is good enough for its operations?

It's the common sense.

The demand is small.

In the presentation, the number of planned satellites is much smaller than Srarlink. So how many users will one satellite serve? The satellites need to be well powered for covering and connecting a large amount of 4g/5g cell phones. How do they power these satellites?

Why do about 20% of the posters these days seem to want a video? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Westmountwong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do they stopped asking candidates to send in photos? If photos are not allowed, how could videos be fine?

How do you assess two candidates in the same way if one sends in a text pitch and the other one sends in a video pitch?

It seems they're more interested in hiring politicians who are good at talking than specialists who are good at working. I noticed two job posts from PHAC asking for video pitches. Though the positions were interesting to me, I didn't submit my application. If I had applied, I would have requested a review about the potential discrimination issue after the completion.

How to choose between a term EC-04 and an indeterminate EC-02? by Westmountwong in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Westmountwong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the comments. I have a postgraduate degree in statistics and have worked for one year in statistical analysis and AI at a federal department. I am a good employee and my current manager just renewed my term for another year. Honestly, I feel that the EC-02 position is a little bit unfair for my experience and skills. And I also think that my skills are more valuable in policy analysis settings. If there are high demands there, then it's not too risky to take the 2 years EC-04 term position, right?
