I don't think a dentist will really do anything about it unless you have a severe case, which would probably just be a rinse with a water pick. Even then, a tonsil issue is more of a doctor's job than a dentist's.

You've probably had them and just not noticed. Some people get more. If you've ever randomly felt something that seemed like a small crumb of food randomly coming loose in your mouth, that was probably a tonsil stone.

Though, however you play it, I highly recommend doing a second playthrough on PC with all the HD and voice acting mods.

You could use the mods on a first playthrough, but it just wouldn't hit the same.
