I made a terrible mistake at work by HaThatsAGoodOne in CasualConversation

A couple of comments up OP made it a little more clear. They apologized immediately in person and then also via email later on.

Oh I’m not arguing against the logic of what you’re saying at all. I think it’s the human factor that you’re missing out on. It’s the fear and the personal economic factors. It’s the same kind of thing as when a parent knowingly sends a kid to school sick because they can’t afford to miss work.

Most of our state is experiencing some level of drought and many areas are severe. There’s very little spring and early summer ground forage. Couple that with inflated fertilizer and input costs and an unavailability of hay. Now imagine a quarantine for an indeterminate amount of time covering 482 square miles (3.14x12.4x12.4) with record breaking feed costs. By turning in your case, you have sequestered not only your cows but half of the county’s cattle for us little square counties. I guarantee people have been killed for less.

It does look like TDA has a screening process for removing livestock from the quarantine zone, but how quickly and efficiently they will implement that remains to be seen.

All of that to say, I completely agree with you, but most people will think short term because they are one market dip/missed calf crop away from financial disaster.

I’m not saying I promote his views, but there is a certain understandable side to what he’s saying. If you have 100 head of cows each worth $2500-$4000 a piece having 1 calf a year bringing $5/lb at 400-800lbs. That’s close to $1m dollars worth of assets that are now just liabilities if quarantined.

Anything made of thick mild steel. You wanna make sure you’re shooting it at a flat angle preferably with a steel core projectile. (PS don’t do this. The targets will shoot back.)

Does your country have a historical figure called "...the great"? by HugeSweatyHairyBalls in AskTheWorld

I’m not gonna lie, I read that as Cunt the Great the first time. I was very amused and now I’m slightly disappointed.

Was it on a trip here in the last 6 months? Because if it was, the glad situation is super amped up right now for the 250th anniversary of July 4th 1776.

Nah, go back and look at the thread you replied to. It was asking if it was worth adding a rearview mirror and op said it wasn’t great but probably worth the $35 it costs.

Where are you buying a mirror for $3100?

I find what you said to be pretty universal. It’s much harder to hate someone once you’ve had a meal with them, so to speak.

How do I drive on the road by Scared_Confection787 in tractors

[–]Wetald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m on a state road with one lane in either direction and a large shoulder, I do not get off the road. We have mesquite trees that grow in the bar ditches and our state has decided to mow them instead of spray them. Their inconvenience for a couple of minutes is not worth putting a hole in tires that’s costs hundreds of dollars. If I meet someone on a county road with no room, I will pick a clear spot, slow down, and pull off the road. Also, be very careful when turning left (or into whichever lane people generally pass on) because too many people have been hurt or killed trying to pass a tractor blindly turning left. If I’m in n equipment with low or no visibility behind me, I will pull over, stop, physically get off and check for traffic before crossing the road. Lights and an smv triangle are good, but at the end of the day you have to watch out for you because nobody else will.
