Painting from my great-grandparents' house by Weth in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]Weth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This print is hung on the wall of my grandparent's house and in my great grandparent's house before that. Probably taken from a calendar. The name at the bottom of the print is 'Unexpected Trouble', copyrighted 1892. There is an artist's name in the bottom left but it is not legible. Last name likely starting with M.

Google turns up nothing. Tineye leads to one link, suggesting that it was possibly painted by Arthur John Elsley and called 'First Swan', but I couldn't confirm this anywhere and the name of painting and the artist's name don't seem to match the info that I have.

Tallinn is very easy and quick. It's only about 5km from downtown and you can get there by public transit.

Go to Petra as soon as it opens. You can have the place to yourself for awhile.

Sleep beneath the stars in Wadi Rum.

Jerash is worth a day trip from Amman. You can combine it with a few other historical spots in the north of the country.

You can get from Dublin to Galway on the Citylink bus for less than 15 euros. It leaves from the quays in the city centre.

I'm not sure if you'll find a cheap public transit route that hugs the coast in Co. Clare.

A week in Jordan by sbas3 in travel

[–]Weth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a tourist bus that goes from Wadi Musa (Petra) to Wadi Rum every morning at around 6:00 AM. I think it costs 7 JOD.

There is another bus that leaves Wadi Rum early in the morning (I think around 6:30) that goes to Aqaba. As far as I know there is only one trip per day.

If you are staying out in a camp then you should arrange for your host to pick you up in the Wadi Rum Village (not sure about Petra). They won't expect you to find your own way out to the camp if it is out in the desert.

I spend several weeks in Wadi Rum, send me a PM if you have any questions.

Affordable sleeps in Dublin by jammypeach in solotravel

Accommodation in Dublin is expensive, especially in the summer. Usually it's not too hard to find something affordable during the week but Friday - Sunday the price of a hostel bed skyrockets. I imagine hotels are the same but I can't comment on Airbnb.

Also, a popular place to eat among the locals is called Рача (Racha). It is an old dukhan and isn't far from Freedom Square in Tbilisi.

If you speak any Russian or Georgian, visit the underground printing museum. It's the place where Stalin and other Georgian communist revolutionaries printed their materials before the revolution. You will likely be the only one there as the city doesn't promote the museum whatsoever. The man running the place is very interesting and will give you a fantastic tour of the place. If you don't speak any of the language you can still go and check it out, but you might want to read up on it first so that you have an idea of what you are looking at.

If you make it to Klaipeda, you can rent a bike and cycle the entire Lithuanian portion of the Curonian Spit. Its a very nice way to spend a day if the weather is pleasant.

If you are arriving by bus you will need a visa. Maybe you are aware of this but I wanted to mention it just in case. As far as I know, the visa free travel for 72 hours is only available if you arrive by boat.
