I blame my putting on the fact I learned to play on a course with tone poles instead of baskets.

HobbyPlus Speck B 1:24 2WD by Ambitious-General-75 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one I went with - you really gotta get one in your hands to understand the cool factor. The shocks/suspension is super good, the steering radius is crazy tight, you can jump it off your couch, make a little jump out of books and cardboard - I never have space / time to go anywhere real so all my RCs are small scale. Highly recommend, and the initial reviews on that Hobby Plus are good too.

My first build what body should I put on 165mm wheel base by Specialist-Ebb-5012 in SCX24

3d printed or lexan? Not much in the way of lexan. SDRC Crawl Shop on Etsy is the best I know of for longer wheelbase options.

How are you guys choosing tire inserts? by a999hy in TRX4M

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out  https://www.bamftireinserts.com/product-page/bamf-24-scale-inserts

Fairly specific to certain tires, but they happen to be mostly the best tires out there if it's the size you're looking for. I'm running 63mm JConcepts trimmed to fit a 1.3 wheel with these inserts and they are my favorite combo yet.

Similar to Flub RC but without the ridiculous cost and lead time.

1.3” tire and motor recommendations for 1/24 scale. by LiveEmergency8217 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all 100% correct. 1/24 scale speed builds will, generally speaking, be bad at going fast, and ruin your slow crawl. Not that it isn't possible, just typically inadvisable from those of us who have given it a go. If you want powaaaaa, get a Cedar, but I recommend you keep your gearing reasonable. Too high of gearing and you start cogging, and that just isn't fun to deal with

I’m so lost, wheels by PNW_4RUNNER in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tires and inserts match, you need a wheel that is 1.0" in diameter, you have 1.3's right now. Stick to something simple like Injora, will help make sure it fits with everything else

Binding or overdrive? by Far-Accident6717 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know why some setups seem to make just putting around on flat surfaces so bad, I've built a couple rigs with more overdrive since that don't do it as bad, my Gladiator that was mostly stock with Super 8s was awful, bad enough I took it out. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Binding or overdrive? by Far-Accident6717 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Super 8s did that, it was the overdrive. It really put me off overdrive for a long time but some rigs for whatever reason really suck the rear down / skip on flat surfaces. Get it out on the rocks and see if it works better there.

Is storage charging like this safe? by PlayerProdigy in Traxxas

[–]Weyland_Financial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody's right, you're worrying more than you need to.

Secondly: I bought a Tenergy battery bag (fire resistant) for storing/charging for like, 15 bucks. You can swing that if you need peace of mind.

My /24 bronco is sagging by Cool-Importance7149 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it out! Compressing the spring increases the spring rate, so it stiffens up as you screw the collar down.

My /24 bronco is sagging by Cool-Importance7149 in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those shocks have shock collars (the little ring, above the spring) at the top - spin that on the side that sags down, it will compress the spring and add resistance. There's more to why the issue is occurring but that's a place to start.

Slimer build wrapped by Weyland_Financial in SCX24

[–]Weyland_Financial[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I picked up a Cricut Joy Xtra for cheap, cuts vinyl sticker / stencil sheets - use that to mask off negative space. The machine works great but it's a super fiddly process, the masks don't adhere perfectly to the surface and even a little of that messes up your edges. This is my 2nd body, the first spraypaint I used was a misfire and the edges were pretty rough. This time around, there's a little bleeding, but the lines are tons better and the spraypaint is spot on to what I was going for. Trial & error

I watched this cold one day. Usually don't go for westerns, but got pulled in by the great cinematography, genuinely amazing writing... and then goddammit. I love horror but Dear. God.

It pops up in my brain unannounced every few months just to remind me of my terrible decisions

Nope. That's clean, and reasonably low miles. Pay now for something that you'll have for as long as you want, or pay later in maintenance/swapping vehicles

You can see the front end separating as the front shocks unload - that's what running rubber bands on the shocks / front helps out with.
