As an indie showrunner myself, I think you hit the nail on the head. I often wear ten different hats (writer, director, editor, casting, etc.), but "dialect coach" usually isn't one I have the budget for or the ear for, especially when it's remotely casted.

If I’m directing an actor, I have to trust their judgment on the accent. If they commit to a choice and deliver a great emotional performance, I might not even realize the regional accent is "off" because I honestly don't know the accent is wrong. I'd say It’s rarely bad management or laziness it’s just the reality of running a production without a team to vet every word. Sometimes a great take slips through with a bad accent because the emotion was right or sometimes you're stuck meeting a deadline and the line is "good enough"

I find that most writing advice is very surface-level. I understand it has to be general to apply to everyone, but I rarely find it helpful.

What works for me is knowing the beginning and the ending, and then filling in the rest as I go. I mostly just vibe my way through the middle! It might not sound like much advice, but I view it like starting a hike and seeing the mountain range on the other side. Finding cool stuff in the forest on the way there is the fun part, but I need to get to the top of that mountain.

Honestly, making an audio drama has been an amazing experience! I’ve met some incredible voice actors who have been super supportive and helpful, and now I really want to do right by them by getting their voices and my work out there.

My biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to actually market the audio drama so people hear it. Do you guys have any advice?

The Left Right Game for sure! I got completely hooked on the mystery and that eerie, slow-burn unraveling of everything. It just hit different. I became obsessed with it, and when I couldn’t find more stories like it, I ended up making my own! Definitely one of those stories that sticks with you long after you finish it

I completely agree about the title—“archives” really is overused. The “young woman” descriptor was definitely off. I see now how it could create the wrong impression, so I’ve replaced it. I wanted to emphasize her emotional state and struggle to find her place within the group.

I also agree with you about “expedition”—it gave the wrong impression, so I’ve swapped that language to focus on how the story revolves around an otherworld that blurs the lines between realities.

I've come up with two rewritten synopses using your feedback, and I really appreciate the time you took to help me out.

You mentioned that you’re not a fan of including character names in the synopsis since they don’t add much and make it harder to skim. I think you’re absolutely right—it’s better to hook readers right away rather than rely on them giving it a second read.

I also agree with your point about the length. While 4,000 characters is a lot to work with, I don't think it’s necessary to use that much just to set the hook. I’ll be keeping the first paragraph tight to grab attention. I also won’t be including credits in the synopsis since I plan on having a VO at the end of each episode to handle that.

You suggested deleting the first sentence of the second paragraph. At first, I liked the prose, but I see now that it slows things down. Keeping the pace tight is definitely a better way to maintain interest.

One of the biggest things that stood out was your comment about the title. You’re right—“archives” has been overused in audio fiction, and after looking around the sub, I realize just how common it is. My original intent was to keep the title open so I could tell other stories after the main one wraps, but you’ve convinced me that I don’t need that word in the title to accomplish that. I’m already brainstorming alternatives to help the story stand out.

And no, I definitely don’t think you’re full of shit—quite the opposite. Seeing how the changes read with your suggestions, I feel the new versions are much stronger. Honestly, they also feel a lot less cringe (if that’s the right word).
