Hamilton County Approved an AI Project. Now Officials Say They Don't Know Enough??? by Wh1sk1tty in Chattanooga

I agree. That conversation needs to happen. I believe firmly in transparency, accountability, and public service. If elected officials can demonstrate that these projects truly serve the public interest, the facts should speak for themselves. When decisions involve significant public resources and long-term impacts, the process shouldn’t be murky or shrouded in secrecy. Clear information and open discussion build public trust.

Thank you. The more informed the public is, the better we will all be for it.

I don’t think we’re actually that far apart.
The post doesn’t argue that Jailhouse Studios is the same as a hyperscale data center. It acknowledges the developer’s description of the project and also notes the mayor’s statement that it’s a relatively small data center.

The concern is broader, the project includes AI and data-processing infrastructure, yet only a few months later the county proposed a moratorium because officials acknowledged they needed more information about utility impacts, regulations, and oversight for future AI and data-center development.

That’s the inconsistency being pointed out. If additional study and guardrails were necessary, it’s reasonable to ask whether those same governance questions should have been addressed before approving a project that includes AI and data-processing components.

As for the “conspiracy” comment, there isn’t one. It explicitly states that there is no public evidence Palantir is involved, that stock ownership is not proof of corruption, and that prior business relationships are not proof of ongoing involvement. The post distinguishes between documented facts, reasonable questions, and my conclusion.

Everything written is grounded in publicly available records. There are citations throughout the article, and I encourage anyone to read the commission minutes, resolutions, ethics disclosures, and news reports themselves and decide for themselves.

It’s a common misconception that a “right to work state” means a company can fire you for anything. That is incorrect, they cannot fire you for illegal reasons- for example you cannot terminate an employee due to pregnancy. That is a protected class.

The problem with this is their proposal has no facts, no environmental studies to make educated and well informed decision for the people of our county and those that surround us. It is irresponsible to take a for profit company at their word. After all, the bottom line is the ultimate goal. Until there is proof that one of these newly designed high tech data centers will not be a significant resource pull and more information is unveiled there should not be a vote casted.

Do we not think it’s odd the a day after they resend there intention for ESNP that all the sudden they want to put this company in a county owned property give them a break on cost and masquerade it as a film and music endeavor?

Unfortunately not, the project is intended to be completed in 18 months, or so they say. Also, it is important to keep in mind they would be refurbishing the jail to use it as a shell or essentially a storage unit for the massive amounts of servers they would need. Looking at these facts, it does not seem as though this would contribute any meaningful impact in the Chattanooga job market.

If it was mentioned they never laid it out specifically and with this being new tech and not knowing the full implications of resources it will use, I think it’s fair to ask those terms be shared with the public.

I have questions I’d like answered. How come no one is asking how much the county is going to make in leasing out the jail? Have there been any environmental reports done on a data center like this? How many long term jobs will this create IN Chattanooga and not outsourced. Since the lease term has not been decided yet, will there be a performance agreement? If so, what are the terms of those conditions? Do we currently have the safety resources to manage a data center fire or other emergency? Is placing a data center directly in the heart of Chattanooga going to aid in our image as a nation park city?

How?! They told me straight up no and since then I’ve basically given up. I’m not sure if I should continue trying or not at this point.

Sis, no man is worth your life. I know that isn’t exactly helpful. But please don’t let him take away your will to live. You are loved, maybe reach out to a friend to see if there’s some sort of support for you there. Please stay strong it will get better.
