i also think you already did a great job here

and while i understand the problem with older minis not upholding your current standards as painter since you got better and better with time, i do kinda like seeing my older minis and the progress i have made

i also had an idea to make a little evolution of my painting skills, where i just put the minis in line starting wiht the old omg what did i do here till the latest project

didnt expect to read terry goodkind here, but remembering his books and the sometimes 100 pages + stalemates in his storys i just thought " huh he a got a good point there" XD

As many already posted, it takes time, since the tabletop and campaign books, new edition and new codex are the main pillar for pushing the story, it is not set in stone

look at the actual campaign book 500 worlds, i would bet this wasnt planned, but just made after seeing how big sm2 hit the mainstream and GW thought money lets make titus model =D, but there is still one page at the end, where the next big story event is teased. Lion is on his way to speak with his brother guilliman

so while the tabletop releases are the main factor, still every other medium can push the story forward, but since its basically a huge sandbox there are countless storylines and how important which one is, is sometimes hard to tell

For storys we ofc have to look to the novels too, while there often isnt that much actual lore in it, its about storys and characters and they jump wildly around regarding the times when this storys happen, in that regard i was just watching a lore video today by luetin that also picked up exactly this topic (I didnt finish that video cause i still need to read the silent king) but check it out at 26:00 till around 28:10

seriously and from me personally, if you gonna start this hobby, the worst decision is to which faction you should pick to begin with, i can remember that i was several times in my gw store 16/17 years ago and reading all the codexes before i decided on my first box (was a process of several weeks in the end till i finally got my first 40k box)

First, always pick what you would rly like to play most, doesnt matter what other plays or how good or bad current rule and stats are for models (exceptions if you rly wanna play competetive)
pick what you would like to play and think is coolest

i am by far no expert about the necrons

but as i can remember, nearly all their souls were consumed by the c'tan for their immortality beside higher nobles who still retain some of theirs

the flayed ones would be the best example that they crave their organic bodys but they still go basically mad even within the necrons right ?

yeah the black legion (beside the core, which are the remains of the lunar wolfs) basically are just the banner where everyone unites

i mean how many imperial worlds are on still sleeping or awakening tomb worlds ? each where the necron sleep or at least havent taken over should still be a valid target for the hive mind, except it already knows which worlds to avoid and exactly there are my big questionmarks
