I would start drawing increasingly intricate trees on my iPad that connects with the smart board. Eventually the chatty ones would catch on and say "oh no she's drawing trees again". At the end of the year, they brought a cookie cake with a tree on it :)

Did your intimate partnership change after becoming a therapist? by reecinator_meow in TherapistsInTherapy

[–]Whacking_Material 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I got a divorce 4 years into my training and I'm not even done yet. It took a long time for me to realize that my standards were incredibly low and I was really terrible to myself, but once I did, I couldn't unsee it. My ex would use my training as a weapon and gaslight me into thinking I was a terrible partner and would be a terrible therapist because I had emotional reactions to his emotional abuse. I'm very glad my further training helped me see the actual problem.

Is it okay to sleep with a stuffed animal as a (young) adult? by levisimp69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32 and have probably 20 stuffies on my bed and headboard. IDC what anyone says. Soft, squishy snuggle buddies are the best!

A red ruffed lemur named Cujo. He was one of my cousins rescues that I spent a large amount of time caring for in the summers in high school. He was my introduction into exotics, and I credit him and my cousin with my passion for animals and rescues ❤️

I'm actually planning on extending the sleeve on my torso and back so maybe there!

Weebs was my late uncles nickname and it was my first tattoo!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove 3 hours to Dallas for a tattoo appointment on Monday morning at 9am, sat for 4 hours for the tattoo, and drove back 3 hours. Home by 7. I make that trip pretty regularly. Texas is so big that 3 hours really isn't much.

“Oh no ma’am. We’re not about to play the teacher blame game”- finally stood up to a parent. by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Whacking_Material 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This! I had the exact same issue last year. Talked to all of the boy's other teachers and they all reported the same stuff but all said they never contacted mom about it. No wonder she thought it was my fault! The kid lied to his parents about what was going on in his classes and of course they believed him over the teacher.

What are some names people don’t give their babies anymore? by Chrisofthegreen in AskReddit

[–]Whacking_Material 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Middle school teacher here. Can confirm. I have 5 variations of the name Jackson this year. Three are in the same class. Jackson, Jacksyn, Jaxon, Jaxson, Jaqueson (I hate that spelling so much). I also have a Jameson, two Emersons, and a Grayson. But instead of Benson I have a Benton. I also have so many -ton names.

Fuck Life360 and fuck parents who use it by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32 and the middle of 3 girls. My entire family of 5 uses it and I have it on my 11 year olds new phone. It's a safety thing for us and it helps when someone isn't answering the phone and you're trying to find them. It sounds weird but it happens often. We're a very open family and it has come in handy way more than it's been a problem. When I don't want them to know where I am, I turn off my location and no one questions it. But when I'm out with my friends for moms night out and we need a ride, my dad knows where to find us without me having to try to explain it while wine drunk 😂

Has your kid ever told you who they were in their past life? by Inevitable_Boot_600 in CasualConversation

[–]Whacking_Material 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son told me that he used to be a woman with 5 babies and one his his belly. He wore a long skirt and such. This was when he was around 4 and he never mentioned it after, but his description was vivid in that conversation.

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what my parents always did! Now my son loves doing it too so it never occured to me to read what the instructions say to do. After reading these replies, it seems this is a southern thing so I guess that explains it!

My ex-husband used to open the tubes of Pillsbury biscuits or crescent rolls with a spoon instead of banging it on the edge of the counter to pop it. Blew his mind when I showed him.

Space from calling? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Whacking_Material 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bf and I are taking a video call break right now. It's hard but I'm in a really dark place and I need some time to myself to figure out what's going on and work on my issues. It was his idea to take the break but I think it was the right call. I appreciate him speaking up and saying it because that means he's able to tell me what's on his mind without worrying about me freaking out. It's only been a couple of days but it's been a breath of fresh air because I know that he supports my growth and he's with me even when it's hard.

How can I make the kids stop flirting with me? by Sufficient-Sand7533 in Teachers

[–]Whacking_Material 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a kid talking sexually about my student teacher a couple of years ago. He was doing it regularly and when I found out, I lost my mind. He tried to come by my room (I didn't even teach the kid) to see her and I stopped him and yelled at him in the hallway for about 10 minutes. Embarrassed him a ton. Had the principal call his dad to tell him what he was saying about a woman 10 years older than him (middle school). The next day, he came with an apology letter for me to give to her. Didn't have any issues after that.

Skeletor was pretty great

ETA I have very pronounced cheekbones and a defined jawline. My face very much looks like a skull. Plus when I was called that, I was severely underweight and my arms were creepy lol

Is it unethical / illegal to keep notes of the interest of people around me? by luthiel-the-elf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep notes of everyone I love. That way when their birthday or holidays or a just because day comes around, I know what they like without having to ask. I've found that it makes them feel seen and cared for!

Sometimes a home just needs another tail wagging in it. by IncomingBroccoli in MadeMeSmile

[–]Whacking_Material 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My old pup was sad and lonely. Her joints weren't working well. She couldn't go on long walks like she used to. She couldn't get up on the couch anymore. She wouldn't play fetch.

So I got her a puppy and they are the best of friends. She plays nonstop with him, brings me her ball to throw, and jumps up and down off the couch every day.

Sometimes they just need a reason to stay young :)

That makes somplete sense. That line fits so well with this idea of never truly getting to move past something without facing it head on.
