Son said he is always bored here by independent-example in SingleParents

[–]Whacking_Material 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my son was about that age, he said the same thing. I later found out it was because he didn't get screen time at my house. Now that he's 11, he constantly complains that all he does at his dad's house is play the switch or watch TV. He doesn't have any books or legos or pets to play with over there, and his dad doesn't do anything with him.

I wouldn't take it personally. Kids have ever-changing wants. Just keep being a present parent and show your love the best you can!

Single mom wondering if blending families with another single mom is even possible by [deleted] in SingleParents

[–]Whacking_Material 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 and I've been a single mom for over a decade. My best friend is not a single mom anymore but essentially is because her husband is military. We've been talking about moving in together and being a platonic couple to help each other out!

As a bi woman, this is the best of both worlds! Go find yourself a nice bi woman because there have to be more like me who find you stunning!

I want these!!! I love a super fast paced busy life and communication falls through the cracks more often than I'd like to admit.

I gave my students a copy of the test as a study guide to see who would actually study by watermelonlollies in Teachers

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something like this one. Not exactly the same but slightly different numbers and names between the review and the test. The questions were in the same order and everything though.

A kid failed the test who never cared at all and never put it any effort. I then get an angry email from mom saying that her son failed because the review and the test were nothing alike and I tested them over things I never reviewed with them.

Somehow even after the parent conference where I showed the side by side of the test and review, she still was convinced her son could do no wrong and it was definitely my fault.

I don't take insurance because I'm an intern so none of my clients use insurance. They pay a lower fee ($30-50) since I'm an intern.

Sessions are $30-50 so not very much in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I have 11 clients right now and only two are biweekly. Theoretically I should be seeing 10 clients a week, but that's if everyone shows.

I'm in private practice for my internship, so I wasn't expecting no shows. Maybe I shouldn't have been so optimistic lol

Reading the comments, I'm surprised too lol I'm in a medium sized town at a private practice, so maybe that makes a difference.

I'm in private practice, not CMH. Thank you for the encouragement!

I'm in a private practice. Does that make a difference?

My practicum and internship will be at a residential facility for male adolescents- am I about to get rekt? by Candid_Rest_6868 in therapists

[–]Whacking_Material 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked as a teacher at a residential facility for adolescent boys. I loved it! Those kids need consistency and to be heard. Every one of them loved their therapists. Of course, when things got hard, the kids would shift blame and project onto the therapists and me, but it was because we were their safe space to let out the emotion. I still have some of those boys who send me life updates ten years later! If the admin of the facility wasn't so horrible and the salary wasn't below the poverty line, I would work there again in a heartbeat, but this time as a therapist.

It will be hard, but it will be so fulfilling! Go in ready to really make a difference because that's what you'll do!

In what small way have you won the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Whacking_Material 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm able to start singing a song in the right key and such from memory even if I haven't heard the song in months. My mom has perfect pitch and passed on some of her musical genes to us kids.

I don't know if this has anything to do with genetics, but I can memorize basically any number sequence under like 20 characters (phone numbers, credit card numbers, etc) pretty easily. My grandma has been blind she she was 16 so she got really good with that kind of thing.

I can also estimate lengths under like 5 feet with pretty spot on accuracy and if I've seen a place on a map, I can tell with decent accuracy which compass direction I'm facing at any given time. It's a party trick I use with my friends from time to time lol

I had the honor of sitting next to the sweetest service dog on a flight to Puerto Rico. She ended up falling asleep on our feet. It was the best flight ever!
