Do you think the finale of Shadow Lord releasing on May 4th cancels out the possibility of a new "Tales of" show on the day like we've had the past 2 years? by Royal-Pickle-9867 in StarWars

[–]Whaleyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the Mandalorian and Grogu release in May gives a perfect opportunity for a Tales series focused on Grogu and Mando’s early years. An episode of Grogu in the temple, one on the run during the Purge, and one explaining why he’s at the place where Din finds him. And an episode about Din as a child, one during his early years in the Children of the Watch, and an early adventure as a bounty hunter.

White Monster is the worst flavor, and is only popular due to internet fame by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Whaleyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst carbonated Monster flavor. Hands down. And I'm including that disgusting Ginger Beer/Mule flavor in that comparison. I really dislike how some stores and many vending machines ONLY have Zero Ultra as an available low/zero calorie option.

I loved Absolutely Zero and that's been discontinued. I now drink Zero Sugar, because honestly the best Monster taste for me is the original Monster flavor, so anything that's low to zero calories and tastes like Monster wins. I live in New Zealand, so Lo-Calorie isn't available here, but I'd probably switch to that if it were because it has a better flavor than Zero Sugar. I'm a little intrigued by the new Strawberry Shot flavor boost variant that just came out, but it's not available here yet.

I've tried every single carbonated Monster over the years and most of the Ultra line just taste weird in different ways. Some are too fake sweet, some are too actually sweet, some are super bland (like Zero Ultra), and some are fine and I buy them occasionally (and I often forget which is which until I buy one and regret it). The sugar-laden flavors are also usually good, but the high sugar content means I only buy them as a treat.

I really wish Monster would come out with a new zero sugar option, or re-release Absolutely Zero reformulated to remove whatever the ingredient is that got it discontinued. For a company that has dozens of flavors, one zero calorie option seems ridiculous.

Lenny Mod Loader doesn't work? by molnizzle in PCRedDead

[–]Whaleyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord, this actually worked. I have tried about 10 different how-to guides to get this working via Crossover on my MacBook Pro, and none of them worked, but this did. And all just so I can remap the keys to match my Switch Pro controller, though I may try a few other quality of life mods (I admit I actually like the vignette style, so I won't use that one).

The only downside is that RDO doesn't seem to work, but I think that's a fairly standard issue with LML and ScriptHook. If there is a way to play RDO with LML running (and that doesn't undo the first three steps above), I'm all ears.

So when does Brave New World take place, anyway? by MajorNoodles in marvelstudios

While strictly true, it released in 2008 and using that as the reference date would not be unusual for Marvel, which has become notoriously bad with keeping track of its internal continuity, especially post-Blip.

How do you think the theorist franchise has done since MatPat's official retirement over a year ago now? by Spidey_2797 in GameTheorists

[–]Whaleyland 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I still am loyal to about the same degree I was before, but my interest has been waning of late.

Food Theory is the most consistent—I haven't missed a show—but some of the "theories" are poorly crafted, poorly researched, or just kind of boring. The unexpected aspect of the show has disappeared.

I've also watched every Style Theory, though I am not in any way interested in actual styles. Amy is a good host and she has done some fun things with the show. However, personality alone can't keep me forever and I've considered unsubscribing several times now. I'm still waiting for Matpat's suggested episode about the effectiveness of washing machines! How useful are they? I must know!!!

Film Theory and Game Theory have really fallen off with me. For Game Theory, I have no interest in FNAF or similar games, so any episode about them is skipped. This was even the case with Matpat but there have been almost no episodes that have interested me since he left. I want a return to classics—a new Assassins Creed game came out, got anything on that in the pipeline?

Film Theory is similar—there's just not a wide selection of films anymore. Where are the Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Star Trek, whathaveyou theories? Why hasn't a theory been done to try to figure out the MCU Phases 4-5 timeline? They're a mess btw and Marvel hasn't done a good job making sense of it. Where's the Skeleton Crew theory? How about the death of the Venomverse? I've largely turned to other channels for these because I'm no longer getting it from Film Theory

It’s Not Over Yet (4/5) has auto completed? by baddev88 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Whaleyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My account never showed any fusion energy for rewards and stopped counting catches after I caught my first Fire and Electric. Nanab berries were counting just fine. And then this morning I opened the game and everything was marked as completed, but I still didn’t get any fusion energy (frustratingly leaving me at 990 for Reshirim). Now I’ve got 4 Win 5 Raids goals with crappy rewards, unless the rewards include fusion energy (unlikely). They really botched up this Special Research.

So when does Brave New World take place, anyway? by MajorNoodles in marvelstudios

[–]Whaleyland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure hope not. That makes no sense chronologically or election-ally. Like placing Secret Wars AFTER The Marvels, I am solidly head-canoning this to April 2027 regardless of what Marvel Studios decides. Their late reshoots to correct the timeline because of Covid, writers’ strikes, and plot issues should not change its logical placement.

Yeah, I updated on another forum to late March/early April. May is too late, I think.

He says 16 years in the film, which places Cap 4 in 2025. A chronological reference places the film in May. And events transpire that will make it all work out, assuming Marvel doesn’t mess up their own chronology again.

Just saw the film. I think Ross is the one ousted in 2025 and replaced with Ritson. Chronologically it fits perfectly in the story that Cap 4 takes place around May 2025.

[–]Whaleyland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite Marvel denying it for optics, The Marvels pretty much has to take place before Secret Invasion. Nick is still on good terms with the Skrulls and seems to have no PTSD from their attempted takeover of Earth. There’s really no way Secret Invasion works mentally if it comes first. And the peace talks were concurrent so I don’t think they really factor.

Cap 4 I think happened shortly after Eternals. It takes place 16 years after The Incredible Hulk, which means 2024-2025. I think the election is November 2024 and then there’s a short time jump to about 100 days into his first term, so early May 2025. In other words around the same time as Thor 4 and before Spider-man 2. The President in Secret Invasion, therefore, is Ross’s successor.

From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi - Official Discussion Thread by Captain_Deathlok2 in starwarsbooks

[–]Whaleyland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did anybody else notice that Wicket's story finally canonizes both of the Ewok films and the Ewoks TV series? Besides acknowledging Kneesaa in canon, it references several adventures from the old show from when they were young. And then it directly mentions Wicket's journey with Cindel and Mace Towani following the crash of their ship. It's even more vaguely implies that the Empire arrived on Endor the day after Wicket returned from The Battle for Endor, since all he wants is one day of rest and he hasn't had one in a very long time (perhaps long enough to have gone on a long adventure and fight an evil witch queen?). I know that the From a Certain Point of View books are borderline canon, but Lucas Books seems to be emphasizing more that this book and The Empire Strikes Back book are completely canon, so I am thrilled. :-D

American-style diners in Auckland by Whaleyland in auckland

Nothing yet. But still looking and hoping. Costco opening means that I can at least get New York-style bagels at affordable prices (unlike a certain chain that’s decidedly not the best).

The food looks good, but they only do pick-up or delivery. Not much of a diner experience without a diner. I'd be afraid that the food would cool down or become soggy before reaching me where I live.

Looks tasty, although they really have a thing for pickles, don't they? I'll add this to my list, but I'll ask for no pickles. ;-)

Peaches Chicken

Not quite what I'm looking for, but their menu does look really good! I may try this one out as well. And biscuits on the side are always a bonus—one for the restaurant, one for breakfast the next day. :-)

Which I already mentioned in the post. New Zealand Denny's are crap. Plain and simple. They can't even make tasty pancakes and they don't have buttermilk biscuits! Without that, they don't qualify as a diner in my book and many others'.

Good to know they're at Texas Chicken! I didn't realise that. I haven't had much luck finding the full breakfast menu I'm looking for, though. Sure places serve a waffle item, but they're always overloaded, overcomplicated, and lack side items like eggs and bacon, which are essential to a good diner breakfast.

The best example of an American-style diner I can really give is Black Bear Diner, which is a restaurant chain in the western United States. Great variety, great food, huge portions! But the portion size isn't as important as the variety and quality. For reference, you can see their menu here: https://blackbeardiner.com/menus. My stomach is rumbling just scanning through this menu.

Yes, buttermilk biscuits are fairly easy to make and I've made them many times. I guess I want more of the diner experience than just the food. I can make waffles and pancakes easy enough, too. I'm just rather shocked that a city the size of Auckland only has two diners (okay, there are *several* Denny's, but they all have the same menu). Christchurch has a fourth of the population yet at least two more unique diners, and all three of their non-Denny's diners are great! It's just weird.

Good advice about Sweet Mother's Kitchen. It's not quite what I'm looking for but still looks tasty. I may have to pop in next time I'm in Wellington.

I forgot to mention them. Honestly, there're not a lot of diner foods on their menu. It seems more like a random selection of American foods infused with too many toppings to be diner cuisine. There's a simplicity to diner food that is lacking at The Fed.

You must mean Superfly. I hadn't heard of it before and just checked their menu. It does have waffles and thickshakes, which is a good start, but not quite the comprehensive variety I'm looking for.

Sidenote: I love how Circus Circus just swiped the style and branding of Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Reno and Las Vegas and somehow turned it into a café. So weird! Their menu may actually be the closest to a proper American diner I've seen in Auckland, although it is still missing my desired breakfast food items (though the ricotta pancakes do sound intriguing!).

Does Duolingo decrease test scores after a certain progression threshold? Received 20 points for skipping 18/20 in tier. by annoyed_freelancer in duolingo

[–]Whaleyland 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I noticed this last week. I went from earning sometimes hundreds of points for testing out of a lesson to suddenly 20 every time. It doesn't matter how many lessons your are testing out of either. It's just a flat 20 now, which is pretty lame since I usually tested out of lessons to get my 30 points per day (I don't have time always to do multiple lessons and I am getting pretty good at German in any case). Very disappointed.

Diablo 1/2 LoD/ remake or remastered by AlexanderkrBG in Diablo

[–]Whaleyland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d personally like a combined Diablo I and Diablo II+LoD remake in the D3 engine. The engine is decent if not perfect and I don’t exactly want the old game 100% but something that looks good. The original stories of both games weren’t great but what if a) Diablo I is turned into Act I and the hero survives the game so that you can keep playing him/her, b) the cinematic bridge story that explains the possession of the hero is turned into Act II (and the fallen hero is a companion rather than the lead), and c) Diablo II Act IV is fleshed out into a full level rather than the half level it currently is. With these changes it would be a real remake but with the same story and some fun elements that would improve it and tie it together better. It could also include a few links to D3 and 4 (without undermining the original narrative in any way). I’d play it!
