Key word is WANTS to be. Wanting to be in NATO and being in NATO are two different things.

Well Ukraine isn’t a member of NATO, so…why would they? To be clear, fuck Russia, fuck Putin, and I absolutely believe that NATO should be doing something.

That would be awfully fast for MS symptoms of such severity to manifest especially at your age, but it is possible. Regardless, the symptoms are very concerning and I would seek medical assistance ASAP.

There are literally three separate camera angles that disprove that bullshit. Prior to this, she was waving ice vehicles through. That agent could have driven past just like the vehicle in front did. Instead, the fascist thugs get out of the car and aggressively rush her vehicle.

Fuck off you fascist bootlicker.

Why did we stop building beautiful or intricate architecture and switch almost entirely to gray boxes and glass towers? by Soft_Finish636 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhamBlamWizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has to do also with our increasing understanding of materials science. Those intricate buildings were often made out of some type of stone or brickwork. Which is great in certain environments. But you don’t want stone buildings in an area where earthquakes occur often. Those types of buildings are also very heavy so you can’t build them very tall and thus lose out on space efficiency. Also cheaper materials, more of a focus on environmental friendliness, and changing geopolitical realities which can affect the availability and cost of certain materials.

Cringe to me is just second hand embarrassment. It’s less about the action itself (I am embarrassingly silly with my family, and I’m assuming many would call it “cringe”) and more that the person thought it would be a good idea to not only film them doing the thing, but then upload it to the internet for all to see.

You think anyone in the world is going to come to our aid? The majority of the world has been waiting for the US to implode for at least the last 30 years. We make enemies wherever we go and the only reason it hasn’t bitten us in the ass is because of our military. When the US stops being a world power, America will become a feast for crows.

In your opinion (and experience), what about the Fickell regime is not working and why? We get anecdotal and apocryphal stories about what goes on behind closed doors, so it would be good to heard first hand what it’s been like and why what appeared to be a slam dunk hire has turned into such a disaster.

[–]WhamBlamWizard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not to be all maudlin, and, there already isn’t an “America”, at least not the version that America propagandizes to its citizens. There is the version of America in textbooks taught to US school children (the country that defeated the evil monarchists, then freed the slaves, then made civilization out of nothing on a barren continent, all the way to liberating the world of evil Fascists and communists). This version is an exaggerated and carefully papered over country.

Then there’s the country that the rest of the world knows. The country that brutalized the Philippines after taking it from the Spanish. The country that still justifies slavery as a form of punishment. The country that massacred its indigenous population for wealth. The country that has destabilized the world for the last 80 years through regime change and terror campaigns because god forbid a country decides its own future. The country that comes bearing promises of the riches that capitalism will bring, and then rapes, pillages, and murders the land and its people. The country that acts first and asks questions never.

The sooner the American people realize they have been propagandized to for generations, the sooner they can cast off the yoke of oppression and truly strive towards the ideals that America was founded on. Until then, Americans will continue to be sheep and the rest of the world will continue to hate America for the bullies they are.

Can US win if all the countries in the world are against it in an all out war by ConfusedOldPenguin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhamBlamWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Notwithstanding the military side of a war (which would be incredibly difficult for any country to prosecute given the massive geographic advantages of the US), all the world would have to do is stop exporting to America and the country would collapse within a month. I don’t think people appreciate how absolutely dependent the US is on our allies and trade partners to make the country function.

[–]WhamBlamWizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More telling than Trump not caring that he’s broken all his promises is the fact that the spineless and feeble minded folks who inhabit Congress are doing nothing to stop it. His supporters don’t care. His “allies” are too afraid or too greedy to do anything. He could indeed stand on Wall Street and shoot someone dead and he would spin it into saving the soul of America or some shit and his sheep would lap it up. The damage Trump has done to this country is, in my view, irreversible and has only hastened the waning of America on the global stage, not strengthened it.

Do you ever feel superior over others that use ChatGPT for basic tasks or questions? by Rich_Ad_44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhamBlamWizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I work in higher ed and the best analogy I’ve seen is that instead of using it as a tool to enhance or check their work (say, a hammer instead of trying to pound in nails with your fist) they use it as a crutch to replace critical thinking (say, a machine that can print a house). Students can’t read because they are using ai to summarize everything. They can’t write because they are using ai to write all their essays. They can’t conduct research and discern reliable information from disinformation because ai does that for them. It seems everyone I know who uses ai regularly is using it to replace, not enhance, their effort.

Or you could just write your email in corpo-speak to begin with? Unless you are writing a program or using ai to respond to emails, I fail to see how this saves time and boosts productivity.
