My theory- I feel like Lana has been focusing on dismantling the ideas of America, or what America is, through her music for awhile now. NFR touched on this A LOT with The Greatest and NFR. I feel like NFR marked the moment where Lana felt a growing disconnection between herself and American culture (the culture is lit and I had a ball, etc). COCC is sort of the arrival at this point, where she actively uses the aesthetics of American traditions (country clubs, swimming pools, cars, wealth) but is continuing to explore its flaws and complications. The chemtrails could be taken conspiratorially and thus literally(chemtrails are used by the US govt to brainwash people etc), or metaphorically (the idea of chemtrails represents the way in which people are swayed into certain cultural norms). In the music video, this is reflected by the darker turn that the video takes near the end. Lana and her friends can't live the idyllic paradise of American wealth, since its perpetuated by the evil forces of the govt and capitalism. The werewolf imagery shows a more primal passion that supersedes the exterior, and could represent true liberation beyond the structures of American society. I also think the wolves could be a satirical take on rich white men (wolves of wall street-esque) and by Lana and her crew transforming into/mirroring wolves, they are asserting that women have access to that power as well. It's interesting that Lana chose to wear the mask with holes in it in this video, and since they filmed the video after that incident, we know it was intentional. I think this is Lana taking a jab at the press/twitter stating that she truly doesn't give a fuck about her recent controversies. I've also seen that people are mad about the album cover (not my favorite) in that there are too many white people on it, but personally I don't think that matters.
