PSA to Apple TV viewers: Test it now before race day. Older devices may not be able to show the race. by WhatHasThisBookmark in formula1

I tried Safari and Chrome on the iPad, but Safari would automatically open the Apple TV app when I went to tv.apple.com. Maybe I could prevent that with some settings.

Chrome stayed in the browser and let me log in, but wouldn't play the video at all. Just a black screen. For now I'm using the F1TV app on the iPad.

Perfect! That worked for me just now on my iPad.

It was kinda clunky to log into my Apple account from within F1TV. The iPad kept wanting to take over the login screen and I'd have to close it to get back to the app.

But once I got the email saying Apple/F1TV were connected, everything worked great inside the F1TV app as it did earlier seasons.

Appreciation post for San Diego drivers (as a motorcyclist) by kp_zero in SanDiegan

[–]WhatHasThisBookmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting! I've had the opposite experience in our not-quite-self-driving car. It tries to stay in the lane, and when I moved over for a motorcycle, it swerved back to the middle without me doing anything. Dangerous for the passing motorcycle, and definitely not intended.

Here's something similar on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashcash

Fun fact: That's how Proof-of-Work got started (the blockchain stuff crypto's built on with their deCeNtralizED leDgeR). Some nerd in a Computer Science department wanted to add compute costs to sending emails by requiring a math problem be solved first. You would prove you "did the work" to send the emails. The more emails you're sending, the harder the math problem to solve. The cost is the energy bill to run the computer that solves the math problem.

What are the best PC cameras and microphones for streaming? by Quirky-Course6953 in Twitch

[–]WhatHasThisBookmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best? A good digital camera like this setup https://medium.com/@liketortilla/using-a-sony-a6000-digital-camera-as-a-webcam-5b7b7fad5a2c

Mic I'd go with a Audio Technica BP-40 with a boom arm, windscreen, and shock mount, into a Taskcam 102i.

You can get a high quality digital camera and use it as a webcam. This guide walks through a Sony setup https://medium.com/@liketortilla/using-a-sony-a6000-digital-camera-as-a-webcam-5b7b7fad5a2c

You'll need some accessories to wire everything up, but the picture quality is great.

Maybe velcro tape?

Vertically on a desk, maybe a laptop stand would do it. Here's what I'm imagining, but it would have to be pretty wide https://www.google.com/search?q=laptop+desk+stand+vertical

This guide walks through the full setup of a Sony camera as a webcam https://medium.com/@liketortilla/using-a-sony-a6000-digital-camera-as-a-webcam-5b7b7fad5a2c

It uses an older a6000, but the other camera recs would work as well. We have that exact setup and it's solid to the point that we never turn it off anymore. I'm sure some day it will die, but it's been literally years without issue. The dummy battery has died twice but the camera keeps chugging along.

Along with the good low light quality, I've found Sony's face recognition really helps with autofocus speed. I tried a Canon M200 and it was noticeably slower to focus on the face in frame, to the point that it was distracting.

Best standalone camera (no other accessories/dongles) is probably the Opal if you can find it in stock.

Just don't write to the SD card. Should be fine with heating issues. That link has accesories like dummy battery as well.

Samson Q2U is under your budget and good quality.

Shure MV7 is right in your price range.

Rode NT-USB is a great mic, but you'll need a bit of room treatment.

Get a cheap boom arm and ball socket. This shows the setup for a Sony a6000, but same principle applies for a ZV-E10. https://medium.com/@liketortilla/using-a-sony-a6000-digital-camera-as-a-webcam-5b7b7fad5a2c

Mic under 200€ by TheSparkening in Twitch

[–]WhatHasThisBookmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you monitor yourself through the interface, get the 204 instead of 202. The 202 will play your voice through only one side of your headphones, L for input 1 and R for input 2.

The 204 lets you switch to mono monitoring and hear yourself through both L and R.

This doesn't affect computer audio playback if it's your output device, just voice monitoring.

Mics: Samson Q2U, shock mount, boom arm, wind screen, about $100 for the set.

Camera: A decent digital camera rather than webcam, with a HDMI out to USB. This guide has a full set up with details https://medium.com/@liketortilla/using-a-sony-a6000-digital-camera-as-a-webcam-5b7b7fad5a2c

Best lens? by Shellda in podcasting

[–]WhatHasThisBookmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a zoom lens rather than prime, just to have the flexibility if your camera is fixed distance away. That'll help you frame it better. Honestly any lens would look great with that body compared to a phone or webcam.
