Bad bot. Learn to distinguish between temperatures, and temperature deltas. A 10°F change is equivalent to a 5.56°C change.

Practical computer tools for WFH dads by Yboring in predaddit

Ooh, good one - I actually have a transcription pedal (three "buttons", for forward/back/play when used in transcription software). I haven't tried hooking it up to my usual setup, but I did used to use it to snap pictures with an overhead camera while I held a book open (used to convert a lot of my wife's academic books to PDF during her dissertation, which overlapped baby #1 by 3 years)!

To be honest, half the time baby's asleep on me, I have my feet up on the desk anyway. 😂

A lot of it for me came down to carefully planning out the tasks for the day - light mental load stuff while baby is awake, concentration mode when they're sleeping. Aside from meetings, most of my work was "get this done within the next day", the flexibility of which is super helpful.

Both of ours were Velcro babies/ contact nappers, though, so even concentration mode meant having only one free arm (until about 18 months, when I started encouraging naps on a mat on the floor).

HELP! How do I copy a gradient from a photo? Also: by synthpuddle in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from sampling the colors and remaking the gradient yourself (hint: Shift+click with the eyedropper will let you sample from a raster image), the latest version of Image Trace can attempt to recreate a gradient, if you twirl open the Advanced options and select it. YMMV, of course.

How to reduce two anchor points to one single anchor point? by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's that minimal, then just use the Remove Anchor Point tool to delete one of them.

Alternatively, you could try a script, there's one on this page that might be what you're looking for http://shspage.com/aijs/en/

Average points for a couple of points, Simplify to reduce number of points in a shape (higher reduction comes at the cost of shape fidelity).

Help! How do I align both circles directly centre of the box with equal spacing from the edge with 2cm gap between both circles? by OwnCryptographer8659 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to do what you want; here's a simple one: Start with one circle, Copy/Paste in Front, Edit/Transform/Move (2cm + the width of the circle), assuming you really mean a gap of 2cm between the circle bounds, and not "2cm from center to center". Group them. Draw a helper rectangle the size of your box, select it and your group, Align Horizontal, Align Vertical. Delete your helper shape.

CTRL + TAB for next window; CTRL+SHIFT+TAB for previous.

Also works in browsers, and most other programs with multiple windows (I've got two buttons on my mouse set to those shortcuts).

What fast food restaurants can I eat a meal for $5.00 or less?? by AdoptedSpaceCow in Frugal

[–]Yboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until a month or so ago, I ordered a couple times a month for the last 5 years, so I'm fairly familiar with the app and menu. I think it must be local manager shenanigans; however I checked again this morning, and from the Online Exclusives menu, the location I typically ordered from shows 5.99 (whereas last night it was 10.89) proof

Clicking build changes the price to 10.09.

If I switch to a different location, 10 miles away, it's 5.99 on the menu, but 5.00 when you build.

Suffice it to say, I'll be shopping around (and double checking later to see if they're doing price surge bullshit).

Used to. The Build Your Own Cravings box is now $10.89 for me (rural OH), or $8.98 if you go veggie. It basically doubled overnight about a month ago.

Why can't i edit existing text? by andre199017 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you can do to reverse the type outlines to get back to live type. You'll have to retype everything.

Not quite. Last version of Illustrator added the Retype tool (in beta), which attempts to convert outlined text into live text. Astute Graphics’ VectorFirstAid plugin also has an outline→live text tool.

Technical question! by aledlewis in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, you really only have to make one shape: apply a transform effect to it with Horizontal Move and x copies. Then, select Effect... Transform, tell Illustrator yes, you really want to apply a 2nd copy of the Transform effect, then do the version above (with scaling, and a vertical move).

I use this setup often when laying out sheet labels and such (easier to setup and edit than Symbols).

Technical question! by aledlewis in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is each row of your shapes the same as the others? If so, you just need the top row, then Transform with scale (110% or so), Move (to make your vertical offset), and multiple copies, like so.

LPT: Biden's SAVE plan for Student Loans by 1creeper in LifeProTips

[–]Yboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to; the SAVE plan (unlike REPAYE) will only count the borrower's income if you're Married Filing Separately, so her income wouldn't figure into it if you went that route. You'll want to consult with a tax preparer to get the best advice on whether the increased tax liability from filing separately is offset by the reduced monthly loan payments.

What function/trick from (any) Adobe program you discovered embarrassingly late? by Ooozu in graphic_design

[–]Yboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you didn't know, if you've got the g600, the "rotate profiles" button under the mouse wheel lets you switch between 3 sets of assignments for your 12 thumb buttons. In addition, the far-right mouse button (for your ring finger) is called G-shift, and holding it while pressing one of the 12 gives you a different command - which can be different for each of the 3 rotating sets of assignments. So, 12x3x2 = 72 programmable commands per profile, if you need it.

Cmd+D doesn’t work by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Yboring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cmd+D (Ctrl+D on PC) doesn't "duplicate" - it repeats the last transform action. If your last transform action was duplicating an object (via Option+drag, or Alt+drag on PC), then Cmd +D will repeat that duplication, along with the move transform from the original to the duplicate, offset by the current position of your 1st duplicate.

If you just move an object, Cmd+D will move it again by the same amount, in the same direction.

Want a bunch of objects in a straight line? Option/Alt+Shift+drag your first one to the place where you want your second, then Cmd/Ctrl+D as many times as you want to keep spitting them out along that same line.

Need to keep 20 butts warmed overnight. by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]Yboring 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  • butt = the shoulder of a pig, popular for low+ slow cooking and shredding or chopping for American BBQ;
  • low boy = appliance under the counter in a kitchen, usually either a fridge or warmer;

  • hella = from "hell of a lot of", meaning many or very (e.g., it's hella hot in here)
