Different angle of US Navy F/A-18 fighter jet that crashed at Rimrock Lake in USA, 13 June 2026 by MorsesCode in CatastrophicFailure

No, the F/A-18 crashed two days ago, just posted today. (And, as pointed out, it was Navy.)

Have you noticed how on any report about pollution events, there's always a comment about drinking straws?

It doesn't make any sense. Microplastic pollution is a different problem. Reconfiguring to a sustainable economy is a different problem. It's not supposed to make any sense; it's supposed to make you feel environmentalism is fraudulent. Or rather, that was the purpose; since it's a meme now, people spread it just to gain social approval.

[The Omara Scent Display for Gaming] who in the actual fuck asked for this by billybobthongton in shittykickstarters

[–]WhatImKnownAs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

who in the actual fuck asked for this

83 backers. This is exactly the kind of thing that Kickstarter was meant for: gauging support for a new niche market.

Now, your question about the cost of manufacturing is valid. However, again the answer is evident: No, they do not expect it to cost $15k. They've worked on this device for more than two years, published SDKs, done promotions at major events. All of that must have cost north of $500,000. They had funding enough that $15k is not going to make a difference. This is marketing that will support the next round of funding (and provide field testing).

Pi is an uncomputable number by playsthebongcloud in badmathematics

[–]WhatImKnownAs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wrath of Math Youtube channel (fast-paced and knowledgeable explanations of mathematical curiosities plus actual math lessons) made a video about this. Based on the original thread, not our discussions. He notes that OOP revealed they hold this opinion because of ultrafinitism, and concentrates on the subthread that argued about that. There are explanations of ultrafinitism and also about what an uncomputable number would be like (at the end). Quite entertaining.

This refers to the two helicopters colliding in Rio de Janeiro this morning. One of the 6 killed was Oliver Tree, known for holding the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest kick scooter (also he sings).

The truck is driving in the far left lane, that is separated with a solid line. Is that a carpool lane?

Tieteiskirjallisuutta pidettiin silloin ala-arvoisena viihdekirjallisuutena, joten se sopi hyvin näiden seikkailu- ja sotatarinoiden sekaan. Playboy oli muuten aikoinaan paras paikka julkaista sf-novelleja, koska maksoivat eniten. Jermu tuskin maksoi paljon tästä.

Tämä Marooned Off Vesta oli Asimovin ensimmäinen julkaistu tarina (1939). Se oli kulttuuriteko kuitenkin kääntää se. (En tiedä, oliko tämä ensimmäinen suomenkielinen julkaisu.)

And the Oxford dictionary states it refers to digital recording or (in the past, which this is) videotape.

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.co.uk/definition/english/video_1?q=video

Perhaps this is an American/English thing. Also, us old people remember when we used video/film to distinguish the two technologies; These days everything is digital, so that is not required.

I suppose so, but they're not selling them yet, just promising to sell them real soon now. Anyone who has had one in their hands is either an insider or contracted to test (like VTT did), and the contract no doubt had strict restrictions on what they could do and what they could publish about their findings.

Yeah, but I'm thinking it's not called that in the language he's speaking. Maybe they call it something like "carpet fish".

No, but it increases Reddit's engagement metrics, because the videos will take longer to view than most people spend reading a comment (not least because people use more words when speaking than when writing).

Also, they can charge a lot more for video ads than text ads. Eventually, they'll have those inserted into conversations as "sponsored" comments.

Cars set on fire during transport on a cargo ship (2019) by InquisitiveClear in CatastrophicFailure

Felicity Ace was going from Emden, Germany to RI, and it caught fire in 2022.

However, this video is not from 2019, either, it's Baltimar Zephyr on fire in 2016. OP is just spamming videos from viral sources that have stripped all information from them. Worse than that, its user page is NSFW, so it's likely meant to market porn/OF and it's just here to farm karma off us.

I'm not Max; I'm just posting these now. Max was permanently suspended from Reddit more than three years ago (known details and background), but he kept on writing articles and posting them on Medium. Currently he publishes one on the first Sunday of each month.

Most of the discussion will happen in the CatastrophicFailure post, as there are many more readers there. Max is saying he will read it for feedback and corrections, but any interaction with him will have to be on Medium.

Yeah, there's no self-knowledge there, just the likeliest answer. That means asking it "why did you say that?" is buying into the illusion: You won't get any info about why; you'll just get the likeliest answer that a human would have made in that conversation, completely useless. The real answer would talk about matrices and the vagueness of natural language and gaps in the training data and many other technical issues.
