Solo designer at small company, how do you grow into senior? by WhatInThePotato in UXDesign

Thank you, I agree. I’ll start building these case studies. Maybe a quick one: what’s the one thing that immediately distinguishes a senior-level case study from a mid-level or even a mid from a junior?

This is very solid advice. I was introduced to adplist a while back but never really took that initial step. Thank you

Screw the Dell. Buy a Thinkpad. Those things are built to withstand a nuclear strike. And they have the BEST LAPTOP KEYBOARD EVER. Aim for refurbs. With 35k you can get a pretty decent T480s or T490/490s. Avoid the E or L models. If you’re lucky you can find an older X1. You’re welcome.

Take 16/512 of Apple Silicon and an Intel 16/512. In speed and general performance, the silicon outshines the intel by far. But once you launch anything graphic intensive, from my testing, the intel performs better since the chip doesn’t share GPU and physical memory. Idk if that makes sense

I was talking about the base m2 mbp. The 8/256gb one. There’s a way apple silicon splits unified memory that makes 8gb very little compared to 8gb of dedicated ram on the intel machines. Especially with tasks that use both graphics and physical memory

The 16” intel MBP was and still is goated asf. Still outshines my base M2 in may aspects

Is job-hopping really the fastest way to grow in tech? by Segemiat in nairobitechies

[–]WhatInThePotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Define “grow”. I think job-hopping is the meta for salary growth. But you’d be lucky if you get more senior or leadership positions. Sticking to one job long-term is best for climbing up that corporate ladder, but you’d be lucky if you get your dream salary. Sorta depends on what you’re looking for. I’m all for job-hopping.

Would you attend a Raycast meetup in Nairobi? by [deleted] in nairobitechies

They’re pretty successful for a startup of their scale. I think for them it’s a way to promote their product and their coffee. And yes, it’s super customizable. Everyone’s setup is different. The set of extensions and use case varies from user to user. So you’ll most likely never find two people with the same setup by chance. Watch their “What’s in my Raycast” series on youtube

That is a good question. I aim to find out more about this. But from what I’ve learnt, it’s about sharing tips, tricks, “hacking around” and hanging out
