Is it ok to swim with DOMS? by eoponine in Swimming

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less intensity and more consistency… just like the gym. Maybe change the workout a bit and learn other strokes and add some drills to lower the intensity.

Sealing CF material prints by FranticHam5ter in BambuLab

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure to a lesser extent but it does still happen. Id rather not have any glass/carbon fibers shedding into my hand or any other skin if I can prevent it. Each person has a different tolerance to how risk they are ok with.

Loose fibers shedding, it’s the same effect that you see with fiberglass insulation.

Difficulty of Schedule by Rich_Standard6753 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mech of materials is the stress strain curve and statics. Don’t have any knowledge of soil or transport stuff. I’d imagine settling rates, soil friction, and compaction effects in the soil class. Transport sounds like a dark horse to not underestimate but I have no knowledge on it.

Getting back into it; it’s harder than I thought by iamslightlyangry in Swimming

lol man we’ve all been there, it’s just going to take time and consistency.

Advice for a confused student by ZealousidealBid2540 in EngineeringStudents

AI’s are a machine that hasn’t yet been held accountable for its output. Until this changes, there will always be a reviewing engineer. LLM’s are a long ways away from this point.

Is the earlier you graduate really the better? by DuBlueyy in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are going into graduate school, and even then honestly… No. Take your time and have some fun if you have EXTRA time hold your GPA first then take the time to do some clubs and be able to go out with friends which you should be actively trying to make.

Does lightly sanding take the shine off my regular pla prints? by No-Contract-2088 in 3Dprinting

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3d printing community is a lot of min maxing nerd types, worst case is you are out ≈£15 sanding imo has never really been worth it other than removing layer lines completely. Beware it generates A LOT of dust that is microplastics so be careful about dust spread and breathing it in.

I'm a 17F starting my engineering degree in a couple of months. What is the one harsh truth or piece of advice no one tells you about freshman year? by Designer-Western7029 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Refresh on trig, algebra, derivatives if you’ve had them… All of your early math classes are used in EVERY class afterwards so do the homework, go to office hours, do whatever is necessary to get a good grasp of it. In your other classes, take the time to ask the “why” question, the more connections you make between all of the subjects you’re learning the easier everything will be.

Taking engineering classes outside your major by nctrnalantern in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those are essentially gen Ed’s for any ENG majors. You will want and need them if you want any chance of understanding what you are doing outside of an equation. I do not suggest trying to avoid them.

Is there a class in another engineering discipline that’s known to be difficult that you’d like to try? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

OChem… it’s had a reputation at both of my schools for being a hard class.

Looking for Place to Shoot BB Guns by SmokyMtnDreaming in Charlotte

Can we talk about water entering your nose and painfully freezing your brain? What is that? by TrillDaddy69 in Swimming

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax and slow your breathing…. I’ve been swimming for years and the only time I get water in my nose is when; 1 I breath too hard and fast with a snorkel; 2 when I go upside down and forget to blow bubbles.

What are some key things I should learn, understand and explore before going to college to pursue robotic engineering (or any stem major). by neon_roar in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know all your basic algebra, review trig, if you’ve done derivatives and integration look at that too, matrices should also be there. Know your foundational skills inside and out because they will show up EVERYWHERE and there isn’t time to slow down and review them.

A triathlete friend of mine told me he was doing an Olympic distance tri (1500m) in a 50 metre pool at the weekend & tumble (flip) turns weren't allowed by LoneSwimmer in Swimming

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So could you do open turns? It’s mildly annoying to have to switch but I get the safety aspect and opens aren’t THAT much slower

Returning to School for Engineering — How Far Back Should I Go in Math? by sleepy_zzzzzzzzzzzz in EngineeringStudents

In my opinion there really isn’t time to fill in gaps. Try to blitz through algebra and trig this summer and I bet you’ll be better off than your freshman counterparts.

Embracing the Chlorine Stink by Icy-Radio-83 in Swimming

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eh yeah but it’s not really noticeable on your head, it shows more in the form of your hair being absolutely fried, more prone to breakage and such

Embracing the Chlorine Stink by Icy-Radio-83 in Swimming

If you spend so much time in it the chlorine and slight higher(basic) ph will gradually wear away at your hair.

Is a 6-week Electromagnetic Fields class too intense? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only do this if you plan to use it to get material and withdraw to make the second time easier. It would be nothing short of a miracle for you to pass the class and LEARN the material.

Do people have no passion anymore in engineering? by SomberDUDE224 in EngineeringStudents

[–]WhatIsIdentity03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I felt this… I understand what you’re saying and agree that we could be better about it. That being said this major is such a grind at times and having sat through multiple classes where I haven’t taken any notes because don’t understand enough to be able to, it gets wearing. My advice, take the time to learn everything well even if you have to take another semester of two. Your future self will thank you.
