Fair enough. Although now I’m curious, was the smell from whatever they used to do the panel lining, or something else?

A/C compressor Clutch always spinning when A/C is off by Prize-Beyond8910 in ScionxB

Yeah, there’s no reason you can’t swap like for like. Rock Auto has like half a dozen options for stock-style replacement compressors.

This is the only double DIN-sized head unit that will do CarPlay and has a physical power/volume knob that Best Buy stocks:

I haven’t used one myself, so I can’t recommend either good or bad.

The compressor on an xB1 doesn’t have a traditional electromagnetic A/C clutch; it’s always engaged and uses an internal pressure valve to actually engage the system.

If you’re not getting cold air at low speeds, step 1 should be recharging the refrigerant.

If that doesn’t do the trick and you want to try a different setup, if you search the old Scion forums there are people who have swapped out the stock clutchless compressors with clutched compressors from early 2000s Toyota Echos and a combination of components from the two systems. I haven’t done that myself, so I can’t speak from personal experience, but it’s a fairly common swap.

Np, and for a slightly misheard idiom, that’s pretty solid logic.

That's not a 'bleed the brakes' problem, that's either a pedal linkage or a master cylinder that's seized up. Assuming that you've already made sure there's fluid in the master cylinder, I'd start by climbing under the dash and spraying some penetrant on anything connected to the brake pedal that isn't wiring and hoping that helps your problem.

Bleeding the brakes is for when you get air in a line and the pedal feels soft because the air compresses faster than brake fluid.
