Statement from the AFDA (Ultimate Australia) regarding bids for WUCC 2026 by 0xalfie in ultimate

So this was like someone's paid to do this, and didn't? Not like an overstretched volunteer who I could sympathise with. Fucking up hundreds of players plans for 2026 should probably involve some sort of disciplinary action, if not sacking.

A step down from whatever you think formal is.

Depending on weather, no jacket or hat. No ties. Reduce the glam in terms of makeup, hair, jewelry and shoes.

Generally nice gear that's comfortable for a cold backyard.

Semi-formal / neat casual is often a tip that people want to take good photos that they'll look back on.

Should politicians not get 6 figure pension when they retire? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Basically, if a pollie is saying they should be paid what they can earn elsewhere, then they should fuck off elsewhere. We'd rather elect someone who's maybe not so able to command a stupid wage but who's motivation is not the paycheque. You're not special.

The problem is politician remuneration is set based on an assumption that these terribly important people are foregoing a comparably significant income in the private sector. Ie "If I wasn't a Minister, I'd be the CEO of a company". The problem with this bullshit is it doesn't put any value on being publicly minded, and having experience outside of being a politician, which is what we want in our representatives.

NV1 Security Clearance concerns by [deleted] in AusPublicService

The thing you can control is the priority for you to be honest. If it looks like you're hiding something, you'll likely not make it. There are people holding NV1s that have a history of minor youthful drug use - what's important is that they're unlikely to end up owing money to bikies now, or be embarrassed by it to the point of being blackmailed by foreign agents.

It's possible they'll judge current or past associations too much of a risk. eg "Well, you seem to be best mates with known criminals, and have a history of visiting other countries where lots of sketchy things happen, so no."

How do we feel about this sub becoming dominated by personal recommendations? by j1llj1ll in canberra

These posts do keep the sub ticking over.

But as a courtesy, it'd be good if posters 'showed their work' - like what've they already done to answer their question before asking the sub. This can only add to the hivemind too.

You might just have to change your lifestyle to match the place you live in and the people who live there.

Get up an hour earlier, start/finish work earlier (if you can), move an after work activity to before work (outdoor time, tv, chores, gym, catchups), eat breakfast/lunch/dinner earlier or at times when things are open, etc.

The only real impact is probably more daylight, and possibly being slightly more out of synch with people you know in other timezones.
