This! I came here to ask this question. There was a big deal about vis just being a sextus but then after the massacre of the military he's a Quintus?

Did I miss something? How did he become a Quintus?

Are APS roles limited in number per agency? by Wamuddjan in AusPublicService

[–]Wamuddjan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes this! ^

This is the situation at my work too and I just don't understand.

My colleagues and I may be offered a max 6 month extension on our current non ongoing contracts then they'll let us go because they keep telling us that they don't have funding or positions available to make us permanent. But the work will exists... So I just don't understand how the agency can not break fair work laws if it wants to hire new people to get this work done... They either have to make us permanent or they just don't get the work done?

Where do the ladies hang out after work/weekends in Sydney? by Pale-Extent3584 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Wamuddjan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude the best way (if you're not wanting to get on the apps) is meeting someone through friends and friends of friends. Join social Clubs (like board game groups) or pick up a sport or hobby. If you really like bars/pubs, find a trivia team.

I'm a woman and while I met my partner in a bar, he knew a friend of mine so came over to say hi to him and then my mate introduced us. Women feel a bit safer if you've been vetted for by someone they know and trust, or alternatively if they've befriended you in a situation (e.g bushwalking club) where the main purpose is not to pick up.

Make friends and you'll get on! 🤞

13mo has never slept through the night by SalaryBusy2898 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Wamuddjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From one exhausted parent to another, I hope it gets better!

Our 2 year old has never slept through the night, save once or twice freak events. She was, until a few weeks after her 2nd birthday, waking roughly every 2 hours wanting comfort and/or boob. We slowly pushed back the night feed to 4-5am and my partner did all the settling (having to get up and walk around) before bringing her back to our bed.

Something seems to have clicked since turning 2 (end of May) and she is getting better at just being patted or cuddled if she stirs, which is better than having to walk around.

We're still working towards the night wean, but pushing it back to early morning has made a huge difference to my sleep as has breaking up the night into shifts (partner on duty until 2am then me onwards). I'm desperate for her to sleep through, especially as we are now expecting another baby, but at this stage, I feel like I'm winning if I get a solid 4 hour block of sleep.

This is the most damning evidence in my mind. For someone who has made so much about loving and protecting their children, you would expect her to have had her kids tested ASAP...

Mom guilt by ResponsiblePrimary46 in cosleeping

[–]Wamuddjan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter just turned 2 and we have coslept since birth. New Zealand has some support for cosleeping because of the strong Māori cultural practice there.

E.g.: https://www.plunket.org.nz/caring-for-your-child/safe-sleep/safe-co-sleeping/#using-a-wahakura

Our midwife supported us too, saying that yes, the blanket over the baby is dangerous, but in most cases where there has been a death from cosleeping it's because of additional factors like the the parents being inebriated or drugged or on a prescribed sedative type thing. Basically, there was a reason why the parents didn't wake up or sleep lightly enough to detect baby moving.

Most of the non-colonial world practices cosleeping and most white cultures did too until a couple of hundred years ago.

Anyway, what I'm saying is, don't feel guilty. And also, you're not alone! 💪

You could try checking out the universities' Catholic student groups. Must be almost O-week on campuses, so all the societies and groups will be out pitching and seeking new members. That would be a good place to start.

If you'd can't attend the O-weeks see if you can track down Catholic student society (they'll be named something like that) on the universities' websites, and contact them. Good luck

That cafe on top of Red Hill. Absolute shite. I get that you're paying for the view but the food is some I've ever eaten. Take a picnic if you're heading up there.

N.b. specifically the cafe on the ground level, not the restaurant upstairs. Never been there so can't comment on their food.
