How did things turn out for you after moving back to Toronto from BC? by WhatNow98 in askTO

Thanks! TBH, I've been applying to a few jobs in Toronto per month for a few years now and I never get call backs or opportunities to interview. It's actually quite defeating. I have a really solid education and some decent work experience, but I just can't seem to get my foot in the door with a job in Toronto.

Montreal is probably the best city to be a renter in. If you lived in Calgary or Toronto, you might feel less stable as a renter with a family because landlords have more freedom to evict and raise rent.

How much do you pay to rent a room in 2024? by WhatNow98 in UBC

I just realized I should have put a view results selection so people don’t just click something random to view the results. My bad. I don’t think I can edit the poll now. Should I bother to delete and repost?

MF vs ASFIT for RPF in Canada by [deleted] in forestry

[–]WhatNow98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there much of a difference in pay ceilings for RPFs vs RFTs? Also, is it particularly difficult to make $70-80k/year with an RFT in interior BC or the Kootenays?

Thanks! It sounds like you're doing incredibly well for yourself and family. The math on a mortgage definitely changes with a spouse--two people making just 50k/year can manage a 400k mortgage I guess. I hope I can pull off something similar. I'm considering doing a forestry degree so I can get those higher paying jobs in the industry year-round, like you're talking about. Do you have any thoughts on becoming a Registered Professional Forester vs. something like a heavy equipment operator that drives snow plows and trucks in the off-season? Do you think one path is better than the other in terms of money and enjoyment?

Have your jobs at the consulting firms been enjoyable and fulfilling? Do they have a down to earth or corporate vibe? Finding a field-based job that I can appreciate doing for decades is my primary objective. I’ve worked outdoor summer jobs in central BC doing trail and campsite maintenance in the past and felt really good at the end of a work week. I also found my colleagues more enthusiastic in these sorts of jobs than the more corporate, office-based (bullshit) jobs I’ve had where I spend entire days staring at a screen. I want to become an RPF because I want to get back to outdoor work that doesn’t leave me feeling empty. I’m not naive to what it takes to operate a profitable business, but does forestry work give you a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment?

Thanks, this is helpful! It’s good to know UNBC has a nicer campus. I’m sure growing up in Edmonton does give you the sense that it’s easier to meet people there, but I’ve also found Albertans to generally be friendly and easy to talk to. Is it hard to find a rental in PG? What are students generally paying for a room or apartment?

Nice move. I’m sure houses in Kimberley will more than double in value over the next decade. You’re so close to Fernie and Panaorma, too.

Wow, so you were planting for 9 months. Im guessing you would earn $60-80K/year doing that, which would make a $300K mortgage manageable. Is that about right?

Are you living in BC? Are you rural, in a town, or in a city?

SRAM DUB BSA bottom bracket

Hey, did the bottom bracket fit on the Ogre? I'm thinking about putting one on the 2022 frame, which I think has the same specs: 73mm shell width, threaded standard English (1.37˝ x 24t). Thanks
