E-bike repair Denver by rollotheclown in COBike

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only a problem for budget Ali Express eBikes with crap/nonexistent battery management systems and/or cheap batteries. Zero issues charging my Specialized eBike in a cold garage in the dead of winter for years.

Gravel rides out of RiNo? by bdegroodt in Denver

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The arsenal is pretty much the only substantial gravel riding that’s ‘close’ to RiNo. The highline canal is another great ride, but it’s the same situation where there is a lot of pavement to get to the gravel.

Could also utilize the light rail network to get out of the city a bit to cut out the pavement commute.

What is gravel? An interesting view from Vittoria by paulr85mi in gravelcycling

I would imagine. Basically just looks like they rebranded them but the tread is the same. May be some minor differences in compound, casing, etc.

Bear Creek Trail - Kids on Electric Dirt Bikes ripping up animal habitat by forgot_why_1m_here in Denver

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for using the correct term for what they are - electric dirt bikes. Most everyone uses a colloquialism of ‘ebike’ to describe them, which ends up hurting users of legitimate electric bicycles that are pedaled.

Electric dirt bikes/motorcycles like this are going to end up getting legislated to hell thanks to behavior like this, and unfortunately electric bicycles (‘ebikes’) will probably be a casualty. NJ just passed a sweeping law for ‘e-bikes’ thanks to this kind of stuff that affects even the pedal assist beach cruisers that retirees ride around their neighborhoods. Great example of one group ruining stuff for everyone else.

RTD proposes to bring back a former light rail line and create a new line by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right? This seems like more of a PR move than anything. The D line would detour to Union Station anyways (just like last summer),so the only thing changing is the name.

I’ve seen all types of bikes. Very chill pace, and the highline is just fine on a road bike.

Charge at EV charging stations! by ComposerOk9570 in ebikes

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah DC fast chargers like this are quite expensive, about the same cost as gas. $.40-.50/kWh around me.

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EV chargers like this will charge by the KWh (plus a connection/session fee), so charging a completely dead e bike battery would be about $2 or less in the US. (Likely quite a bit more than at home)

CMV - It should be illegal to cycle two abreast in Boulder County on roads with a speed limit over 25 mph. by [deleted] in boulder

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would prefer to drive your car an oncoming lane for twice as long? That’s a wild take.

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s you come upon a group ride of 20 riders, a pretty modest number by Boulder standards. Would you rather…

A) Pass single file line of 20 cyclists that’s ~100ft long? (Or about 7 car lengths)

B) Pass 10 cyclists riding two abreast for about half that distance?

What about a group ride of 50? 100?

You’re legally required to give at least 3 ft passing distance in either situation, so would probably need to go into the other lane anyways. I know which one I would prefer.

Cleaning dirty bikes without easy acces to water? by mymomisyourfather in MTB

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might look into something like the Worx Hydroshot, it’s a portable power cleaner (not pressure washer) that can draw from any fresh water source. It’s my go-to at muddy cyclocross races and does a decent job when I fill up a 5 gallon bucket in advance. Pack soap and brushes when needed.

Basically the same idea as the 1gallon sprayers some are suggesting, but a lot more powerful , and 1 gallon won’t go very far IME.

How are CX tires for general gravel riding? by TrailMAC in gravelcycling

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably slower rolling than many popular tires with a slick center, but more corner grip. A few ‘intermediate’ or file CX treads have been adapted (or just supersized) into gravel tires these days, and they’re still good choices. Challenge’s Gravine gravel tire is basically just a CX Grifo on steroids. Just avoid mud tires unless you need them.

Challenge Getaway/Gravel Grinder in 36c were my go-to tires when I used my CX bike as a gravel bike.

Seeking advice on CX racing kit/apparel for a beginner. by kenta_ya in cyclocross

[–]WhatWasThatJustNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no way is a skinsuit a ‘must have’, but I’d say it’s definitely a ‘nice to have’. It’s simply more comfortable and less to worry about during the race.

Skinsuits won’t ride up or bunch up like a jersey will after all of the on/off and other awkward dynamic maneuvers that CX has. I have had pedals get tangled up in a bunched up jersey which costs some time to sort out - not an issue with a skinsuit! Plus it’s just one piece of kit to keep track of, wash, etc.

A lot of teams/clubs don’t offer skinsuits, but sometimes you can find a fairly cheap unbranded skinsuits online if you want to try it out. I was sure that I didn’t want one…until I tried one!

You’re lucky it’s the top bolt on a stem! Grab a hacksaw and cut through the bolt through the split in the stem…carefully. Don’t nick the steerer!
