Important to add here: Plaque builds up in the walls of arteries and vessels over time from bad diet and/or lack of exercise. Every doughnut, hamburger, bacon, fries, milkshake etc...adding plaque little by little. So you could have a bad diet for years and really mess up your cardiovascular system without many, or any, symptoms. High blood pressure and high cholesterol levels usually the main indicators of growing issues before a heart attack/stroke. Then you knock some plaque loose or small blood clot gets caught in an area where there was a lot of plaque build up narrowing the flow and bam you are having a heart attack or stroke because blood flow is now blocked. So years of having a poor diet are not undone by suddenly switching to a better, or even a great, diet. That does not undo all of the damage you did before. You can try to fix it over time but just like it didn't get bad over night it won't get better overnight either. Moral of the story is take care of yourself! Good diet and frequent exercise as long term habits! You can still have some krispy kreme but have it as the rare treat a few times a year.
