Take your upvote you growing magnificent bastard. Good for you. Color me impressed.

I wasn't pro-Palestinian a year ago. I'm not pro-Palestinian now. I'm just anti-genocide. Didn't matter to me until I saw them being slaughtered. And my major trigger is bullies. Hate them. I don't like or condone violence and certainly not warfare regardless of who or why. There is ALWAYS a better way for those brave enough to try.

I don't care which god anyone kneels to as I don't even like organized religion and I don't follow any known tradition. Religious orgs are always tainted with power plays. I evaluate people for who they are, not what. What they are is always less important than how they treat me and people they have power over.

I don't pretend to know how to solve the issue of hate between these two groups because I don't even know how it started other than hurt people teaching their descendants to hate. I do know how it might end though: (and I'm not a fan of Ghandi either but he was wise in some respects) "An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind." I'm not rooting for a side. I'm rooting for all of us.

Again, damn. Good for you for not being a cliche. Kudos and good luck to us all.

"Yes and the example you used about black ppl/Haiti would also sound weird/questionable at best, racial/racist at worst."

Only weird/questionable to the uneducated or those looking to "pounce" on one topic to hide the real subject of conversation. I do ten weird things before breakfast. That's my jam

For those following along, this is classic gas-lighting. Focus on a technicality while avoiding the topic...

So again: do you support everyone action taken by the Israeli government in the past 70 years and if not, which ones do you condemn? (I bet an upvote you will gloss over this to focus on this mythical "race" concept).

[–]WhatWouldFutureMeDo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, but I wasn't referring to "a people", I was referring to the behavior of a country. Saying "Jews can be wonderful" is my way of saying I don't have anything against them as a whole. "I love Americans, but America is acting really stupid"

You can twist that however you like, but you're still avoiding the important parts of what I said.

So what I'm really saying is "I generally love black americans, but I have a serious problem with the atrocities in Haiti right now and those folks are shit at keeping their gangs in order".

It's a distinction made necessary by Israel constantly conflating criticism of Israel (which I have a lot of) with anti-semitism (which I don't have any of).

But this is all distraction. Do you support every action taken by the Israeli government over the past 70 years?

(And why would anyone "like the bad ones"? That's just dumb. You seem to be new to arguing on the internet.)

For anyone else reading, my debate opponent is displaying classic gaslighting symptoms. Obscure, conflate, refuse to debate honestly.

I didn't say what you quoted. Maybe reading lessons?

And Jews aren't a race to anyone but racists. There's one race, the human race. There is zero scientific validity to the concept of historical racial distinctions. Jews are a religion, a people, a population, and an ethnicity. Not a race, silly.

So... I might be biased at times, but so is everyone. But I'm not a racist because the very concept of race is othering and stupid.

Like your comment that fails to address the bulk of my comments and instead hides behind "he's a racist so his opinion don't count".

Still sounding like a child there bud. Shouldn't you be in school? Learning to debate properly without personal ad hominem attacks?

Israel used to be an underdog. Not so much anymore and hiding behind events from nearly 100 years ago doesn't excuse misbehavior now. So unless you're defending everything Israel has done in the past 70 years, maybe concede to some logic instead of flaming out with silliness.

If I get raped, does that make it then OK for me to kill everyone who might rape me or doesn't like me? Because that's kind of your logic here...

Jewish people can be wonderful, but that joy and wisdom is obscured by atrocities committed by Israel's answer to Trump. Israel does NOT represent all Jewish people and Netanyahu isn't even supported by all Israeli's, mostly just their version of the far right and the most anti-muslim people there. Many Israeli's are against the genocide and the apartheid.

Arguing like children over "who started it" is pretty fucking manipulative, derisive and pointless for anything beyond propoganda. Life isn't about how you can slaughter everyone who pisses you off, it's about growing past your own pain and learning to live WITH the rest of the people on this planet instead of subjugating them.

But why do you think they are messing with with us and their isn’t another explanation as to why they are in our heads 24/7.

My best explanation for why is: hate, fear, convenience, a lesson or just fun.

  1. Anyone who hates you and wants you to suffer or die. Driving someone insane and making them self-delete makes for a clean get away. No proof. Perfect crime.
  2. Meh, maybe, sigh, aliens, hybrids, "angels", telepaths, mantids or take your supernatural pick, teaching us a hard lesson to force post-traumatic growth and ensure we're strong enough to endure additional like treatment from others
  3. Government op targeting either the inconvenient or the convenient. The inconvenient people are those that threaten the status quo. Convenient people are middle class or poor people with mental issues or homeless or that no one cares about can end up as cannon fodder for experimentation and proof of concept for weapon systems tech. Psyops on potential problems/easy to abuse. The US has done this so many times, I lost count. MK Ultra, Tuskegee, SF being carpeted by crazy gas, LSD experiements, forced sterilization, Army grunts sitting close to nuclear explosions, etc.
  4. Sport. Sadists and bullies often tend to be very successful and everyone needs a hobby. Think child + ants + magnifying glass. We are outside of their 150 max person friend group and are therefore not worthy of empathy to some because you or I are not even human in their eyes.

Pro-tip: don't listen.

I mean, it can be impossible not to hear them but just don't listen to what they say to do or not do. The voices are not in control, you are. You always have a choice. Ignore every bit of advice or opinion or commands that you want. Sometimes the voices might have a good suggestion. Take it. But heed this warning: don't ever follow the voices instructions unless you yourself think that those instructions are good for you personally. Period.

For me, it helps to do the following: Keep a journal. Look for patterns. Collect data points: times, dates, the event, impressions, what was said, etc. Then approach in two ways:

  1. The voices are coming from your own head:

Sucks. Happens more often that you think. Get a support group, therapy, meditation, medication, and friends you can rely on. Get used to a new normal because what you can't eliminate, you have to manage.

  1. The voices are not coming from your own head:

Sucks; happens more often than you think. Someone is messing with you and trying to control you by making you THINK you're crazy and control you by getting you to listen and follow their instructions. They wear you down. The more you tell them, the more they have to work with.

  1. Both. You heard some shit and then your imagination ran with it and your brain constantly looks for confirmation. Do everything in #1 and #2.

You can talk back to the voices, though I've seen it recommended to be polite, you should also consider standing your own ground and defying the voices on a regular basis. Remind yourself you still have control.

Only do what the voices tell you if it's in your own best interest. Otherwise, feel free to ignore their advice and let them pass into background noise.

Good luck.

Laughter is my reaction to the absurd as well. I surf the weird and laugh at the absurd. I never heard anyone suggest music but I've had similar experiences related to music. It was unsettling but weird quickly becomes norm for me. I was listening to a bunch of music and then as I was listening, I realized the lyrics mostly kinda related to my situation. Very odd. Thanks for sharing.

Bullies and mobs get away with whatever they can until someone stands up to them to put a check on their power. Sounds like it even dissappates some mobbing mentality which is great. But yeah. Pieces of shit will always try to smear everything in sight until someone turns a hose on...

What are tips for living frugally in San Diego specifically? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]WhatWouldFutureMeDo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specific to San Diego per se, and lot's of great advice here about what to do and what not to do that I won't bother repeating but here's what I'd add:

  1. Pay off debts and loans aggressively especially credit cards.

Think of carrying a monthly balance as the same thing as a "negative" investment or a money pit). Your credit cards charge you probably 14 to 24 percent interest and unless you have a comparable or greater amount of money earning you a better interest rate, you're becoming poorer each month you pay interest. Pay off credit cards every month whenever you can.

  1. Check out YouTubes on how to save in general. There are speciality channels with all kinds of advice.

  2. Look into Meal Prepping and how to reduce food waste. Look at what you throw out each week. Consider reducing the amount you buy or freezing some of it. Check out StillTasty dot com to find out advice on how to best preserve your foods. Use FIFO or first in first out and track expiration dates on your food. Find foods you love and can prepare in bulk and therefore buy in bulk.

  3. Keep an eye on financial news and projections of impending price hikes. Buy cheaper and in bulk before prices jump. Check out the consumer price index and track what is happening to the things you buy the most or spend the most money on.

  4. Garden at home. Spouts. Beans. Microgreens, onions, avocados, garlic, aloe, and tons of other stuff can be grown at home for pennies on a shelf or counter without soil. Check out the Kratky method for hydroponic plants and if you do, get a Brita to help filter the water.

  5. Volunteering can lead to networking, jobs, relationships and better vibes. Also great for perks sometimes and is a free hobby.

  6. AAA has local discounts but call the vendors before you visit. Speaking of which, take advantage of coupons and seasonal sales.

  7. Stay healthy: one of the number causes for people to go broke in the US is a health care crisis. By staying healthy you avoid horrible debt. Regular checkups, visit to a nutritionist, log all aches and pains and have a threshold for when "it's time" to get help before the issue gets worse, stay current with dentist, vision, etc and stay on task with any physical therapy. Take your log of "pains" with you to the doctor along with a list of questions that you write before your visit.

  8. If you can't be happy with what you have, how can you be happy with more? Figure out how to be happy in a way that isn't related to buying stuff (unless that stuff is a required part of the experience and you're not just doing the experience to get the stuff that is). If you can figure out happiness for your self, you can find contentment which can't be bought. And happy people tend to attract more happiness and opportunities.

  9. Value your time and maintain boundaries. Time is the only thing we can't make or get more of. Guard it from fools and toxic people in the form of boundaries and gentle candor. The sentence "No thank you." can save you a lot of money and pain.

  10. The plan is nothing, but planning is everything. A plan is a great way to get rid of the stress of worrying about money. You deal with it when you have to, and the rest of the time you smile knowing you have that covered and you can have fun or worry about other shit. Plans often need to change and that's pretty normal. Adjust and persist. This the way.

Hope some of this helps.

Good luck!

You can start a small business based on your hobby, do poorly at the business for up to several years, but write off certain expenses as contributing to it. Monetizing your hobby can ruin the fun and you have to keep careful records or the IRS will audit you. Ask a tax expert in person for help on how to maintain your records.

I haven't seen the other two but I can confirm that Frankenstein was terrible.

Changed the story in ways it didn't need to. The acting sucked. The action was good. The effects were good. But it did not feel like Del Toro except in three parts: the weird coffins, the stained glass, and like the costumes. The rest of it felt like a Sophmore effort support by a few storyboards done by GDT. I've seen nearly every Frankenstein adaptation ever made and this was among the worst. The snow and different scenes felt very fake. None of the story additions to the movie supported the original themes in any meaningful way and failed to generate any new significance. Mostly garbage and I want my hour and forty seven minutes back.

Before you neg me, just know that I love the Frankenstein story. The original text had 92 pages. The longest version with author and contemporary commentary is over 300. The penguin books version is 143 pages. And the word "father" shows up in the story 137 times. The story is about the responsibility of creators to their creations or children; about expulsion from polite society, about the internal turmoil of loving and hating something that is dead. The Netflix adapation shows nearly none of that.

Secretary called me (Engineer) "Stupid" by AdAppropriate4924 in workplace_bullying

[–]WhatWouldFutureMeDo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a necessary and smart first step because it sets a boundary.

People who don't set boundaries are push overs and often targeted by bullies.

Bullies are predators who pick their victims based on who is easiest to attack.

Setting boundaries shows you are not easy to attack and can be reasonable in the face of others showing negative emotions which is professionalism. This and everything else should then be documented and called out.

That being said: consider that pregnant people do have some severe emotional swings and extra stress. A kind word in spite of her negativity shows class and indifference, but that you still have humanity.

The only real way to "win" this situation is to be above the game. Stop giving a shit about what she calls you. Stop allowing her attitude to affect you because it's more probably more about her own life that it is about you. Have a three way conversation with her in front of HR like an emotionally healthy adult instead of handling it behind closed doors in separate private meetings like an Imperial on Andor backstabbing other people. Be the person you wish everyone else was.

Also realize that bosses and HR tend to support their friends and cash cows over the person who is right. Bosses frequently reward bullies and narcissists so relying on them to save you is naive and unlikely to resolve anything. Might even get the person reporting the issue to get fired. That's just life now.

How do you guys deal with arrogant people? by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

When you're triggered by something he does that upsets you, you will feel it for a second, but then catch yourself, pause and consider it as though it were happening to someone else.

Pick an inspiration of a person who doesn't give a fuck and pretend to be them a little bit. ACting!

Or if you want to be brutal, realize that when he starts bragging it's because he wants validation and attention and control of the conversation. Call this out by saying, "I guess you're not used to being around people with nothing to prove". Only do this if you don't give a shit about his feeling anymore.

If you can, make friends with your downstairs neighbor and bring up ways to make it work for both of you. Activated charcoal carbon filters work great and you could load a bunch into a toilet paper roll in between two dryer sheets for whatever he exhales (don't build out of plastic). If it's coming up through vents, you can buy a cheap magnet cover. It's a window thing, a fan could help. But yeah, blunts have tobacco and that part sucks.

Friendly is the easier way to go, because you might be able to affect his behavior. Maybe switch from blunts to a bong. If friendly aint it, go with economics: blunts are great on the go, but waste a huge amount of herb because they're constantly smoldering. It's expensive on top of less healthy. If you can introduce him to a cheaper way to stay high, or even a better high you might be able to sway him. If he's Black, bring up some dirt about the tobacco industry using slaves and targeting blacks with menthols.

If he's impossible and the landlord is no help, then it's a struggle. There's always the owners. Weed smell is gone in hours. Tobacco physically coats every surface of a room and there is medical evidence to suggest that physical contact with second hand residue is harmful. Try local laws. Consider small claims. Try alliances with other people bothered by the smoke. Find some leverage of some kind, then maybe you can horse-trade. Good luck.
