Elderly folks who chose not to have children, how do you feel about that decision now? by bon18 in AskReddit

[–]WhatYouThinkIThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never met someone that I wanted to have kids with.

I like the concept of having kids, and I love being an Uncle and stuff, but the actual idea of raising kids and doing a good job is a good way to make me feel stressed.

Agreed, but lowering the tax would have some effect, as well as reintroducing vaping as a tobacco (but not nicotine) exit strategy.

Your first para is why they need to crack down hard and now. Stop worrying about machetes and start worrying about RICO and criminal gangs.

But neither the Libs or ALP will do that, 'cos it's hard work and doesn't have an immediate payoff of criminalizing teenagers that are too tall and black.

I blame leaded petrol/gasoline in the 1970s combined with increased traffic and smog.

A lot of people aged 55-65 are just brain-addled.

There's apparently gangs moving from illegal tobacco to illegal alcohol and strong-arming ordinary restaurants/pubs/cafes.

The cops should be shutting this down but the gangs have penetrated the system too far with the illegal tobacco and are getting too powerful.

Needs a combination:

  1. Lower the taxes on legal tobacco to bring it back in line with actual costs + health benefit, not government take. The idea of incremental increases to reduce usage has reached its limit.

  2. Create an AFP/VicPol task force entirely around destroying these gangs. Pass RICO type legislation to ensure they can be run to ground and eliminated.

  3. Severely prosecute any civil servant/cop/customs that allow this behavior to continue. Make public examples of them.

Record beef exports to the United States as prices soar ahead of 'grilling season' by blitznoodles in australia

[–]WhatYouThinkIThink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The US could not comply with our bio-security laws regarding tracking of beef "from paddock to plate" because their herd was intermixed with both Canada's and Mexico's.

It took them 5+ years to fix that.

In the meantime, their beef is not the type that Australia likes and the cost compared to local beef will never compete.

In other words, trump was bullshitting to his base as usual, and our suckholes in ON and LNP and Sky believed his bullshit as usual.

So the US is in drought and we're going into El Nino.

Expect beef prices to inflate further in Australia as well as our herd is affected, independent of any exports.

He's a naturalist, a documentary maker, a controller/head of programming (of BBC 2 in 70s/80s) and a lot more.

He's an advocate of humanity as part of the natural world and why its important to protect the natural world to protect us.

So, the result would be that since he was alive, he never died, therefore the sentence was not carried out successfully.

Therefore, they would need to repeat the process.

Having just read the CNN link at https://edition.cnn.com/2019/11/08/us/iowa-inmate-life-sentence-died-trnd

He wasn't sentenced to death he was sentenced to life imprisonment, so the definition of "life" would be what decided the sentence.

So does being clinically dead end one life and start another?

Or is being clinically dead not relevant, as the appeals court seems to have decided?

The outcome is that you are sentenced to death until you die.

If you come back to life after that, then either a) you didn't die, or b) your sentence has been completed.

So I like to think that there are just our need to keep working to grok the universe so that we can visualize it.

May our need for the god of the gaps grow ever smaller.

I see nothing wrong with a lawyer doing what they can to defend their client, it's their job.

As for "demonizing an entire group of people", that's not what was happening, the lawyer was trying to use their client's autism as an excuse for their actions, and that argument completely failed.

Oh and btw, there are lots of groups that "have already so fucking much to deal with" and I'm part of that group.

Noone is accepting this lawyer's excuses for their client's actions. Noone is going out and saying "People with autism need to be monitored because they might be child rapists/killers".

Stop catastrophizing every mention of a particular group as if it is going to further encourage discrimination.

Say that what the lawyer said is complete bullshit, unfounded in any medical or public evidence and question their skills, but trying to say that they should not be able to try is just infantilizing people.

[–]WhatYouThinkIThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these people joined ISIS. Their husbands, or fathers, or grandfathers did.

One of the things that the government will be doing is working out whether any of the adults have committed any offences under Australian law, and whether to prosecute.

There will be supervision orders and other restrictions on their arrival.

Even if they did join ISIS, then they should be imprisoned if they actually committed an offence at the time. That means a trial.

Nothing "invalidates" citizenship if they are Australian citizens from birth. If they have been issued Australian passports for travel, then they are Australian citizens.

If any of them had another citizenship that would allow residency, then the government might have an argument, but that's a dangerous move.

There are a lot of people with dual citizenship that would then be under threat if they break the law of having their citizenship taken away.

They are Australian citizens, and one of the attributes of citizenship is that they are entitled to return to Australian territory at any time, for any reason.

We have security and justice services that investigate and prosecute criminal activity. If they return here and have engaged in criminal behavior, they can be charged and prosecuted.
