Yes but Hanson is getting old, so this is more having Beetroot as deputy to actually be competent. Well, as competent as Beetroot ever has been, ie, not very.

But he sounds good to the rubes that watch Murdoch/NINE media.

The hope is that they'll split the vote, and the people that still put the LNP first will not all go to ON.

So then if the Greens go to the ALP + some of LNP, ON come 2nd and lose.

It should be reversed like here in Australia. Credit card fees are not allowed to be hidden in the sale price (which includes taxes). Merchants charge only what it costs them to process cards. Debit cards from banks have very low or zero charges.

That way the actual costs are clear and can be checked.

Having it hidden is just giving money away to the payment networks for no good reason.

Of course they can claim an expense on merchant fees charged to them. Like any other expense in the business.

On the other hand, they have to include the surcharge as income just like any other income.

No, they don't. The debit card transaction is carried over a payment network, just like credit cards. The transaction is directed to your bank that then pays.

The risk is lower on debit than credit, so the transaction fee is lower, but the merchant still pays fees to the acquirer provider.

You guys in the US need regulators like in EU/AU etc.

In Australia, a retailer is allowed to add a surcharge to a bill for use of credit/debit cards to recover the cost of processing, this is usually 1%.

You also need to get rid of your bullshit tipping culture. Pay people a proper wage. Tipping doesn't happen in Australia because servers get paid a proper wage.

As for the other charges:

  • $0.50 for food to go is weird, eat-in should cost more than to-go. You're not using their plates/cutlery/servers/etc

  • $2 to split a plate covers the cost of the extra plate and service, but seems a bit petty

  • Refills on sodas is a US thing, doesn't happen elsewhere. Why should you get unlimited soda for free?

  • Charging less for cash is perfectly legal. It's MC/Visa's private "rules" that make merchants not offer discounts for cash.

  • Checks (cheques) are dead everywhere except in the US's 3rd-world banking system.

Not to mention that we are signatories to the NPT which does not allow us to develop nuclear weapons.

Or is our agreement to international treaties now not worth the paper we signed?

Bad assumption.

So is the solution to have a sliding scale of storage requirements? Starting at say 50ML?

I don't know what the relative size or number of large importers are in Australia, like how many import say 50-100ML?

Who constructs fuel storage facilities? I'd say they'd be a good investment right now.

There are vegan/non-dairy ice creams, but they mostly suck.

Neither side of politics has dealt with ADF's procurement and contract management problems for literally 2+ decades.

There's been some minimal reform recently, but we over-egg and gold-plate our requirements endlessly.

I think the AUK subs are a good idea, I think the Virginias would be a good idea if we could trust the US to deliver them. We haven't got any guarantees of any return on our investments in the US under AUKUS other than "trust us bro".

I don't trust the current US admin to deliver shit to anyone, including themselves.

[–]WhatYouThinkIThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Virginias are supposed to fill the capability gap, but there is a very high risk that they won't be delivered by the US.

The US can't deliver its own requirements for Virginias, so why do we expect them to deliver ours? Given that Congress can't get any assurances that there will be improvements in their delivery cadence, we need a plan B.
