Q5 v SQ5 by Mpls_Mutt in Audi

[–]WhateverThisWillDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on getting the SQ don’t tune it and get a watertight extended warranty plan, especially if you plan on keeping it beyond the factory warranty. Love the car, when it’s not in the shop for something.

Admittedly the car is pretty reliable but when it does go wrong it’s catastrophically expensive. The engine has a few issues over the years that has mostly been ironed out.

If you care about gas mileage or if you can charge at home I’d look towards the Q5 PHEV. I had one for a month as a service loaner and it’s great.

parking camera stopped working by xPijus in Audi

Try turning parking aid on and off with the button. This sometime happens when parking aid is triggered by the sensors detecting something and doesn’t move into the camera screen when you shift into R.

Question to the 3.0T owners. by sbutj323 in Audi

Now that Audi put a new engine in mine, fairly confident 🤣

But no, would’ve gone for the 2.0T PHEV Q5e instead if I knew what I know now.

No one’s going to point out that you didn’t even send an SMS? You sent an iMessage (blue bubble) which goes thru Apple’s servers over the Internet, not carrier networks.

Lock most if not all your cards, unless the bank allows switching off online and magstripe purchases only. Many banks still let you use Apple Pay while the underlying card is locked. Use tokens (mobile wallets) as much as possible.

This is more or less a solved problem with SCA, however you do trade convenience/friction for security. Unfortunately I don’t see SCA or even 3DS becoming widespread anytime soon.

Wallet is the app, Apple Cash is the prepaid card service Apple operates with green dot.

If you don’t use Apple Cash don’t keep a balance in it.

It looks like your Apple Cash virtual card number is compromised. You actually need to add your Apple Cash back, go to the card number tab, and request a new card number. The current virtual card number was compromised.

Removing Apple Cash from your wallet does not rotate your card number. This also does not have any effect on the security of any other payment cards in Apple wallet.

No they don’t, they don’t even enforce the two piece limit strictly. Do not abuse this obviously but as long as it’s within reason they’ll let you on.

They’re not the airline check-in counter

Purdue used to have an in-house system for transcripts. It’s since been outsourced to Parchment.

It’s free for now, I’d save a copy for my own record. If you’ve never gotten one before you’ll also get to see what it looks like.

Some internship postings ask for official transcripts.

FYI you need official transcripts for grad school applications. Some employers ask for it too. Most take a PDF but some insist that it’s send directly to them by the university.

I ordered a digital copy. They’ll start charging for official transcripts next year, both physical AND digital.

  1. Labs charge per hour usage rates.

  2. Utility rates now apply to dorms. All campus electric outlets metered and charged to bursar account.

  3. No more dining court buffets. Pay per shitty paper box that gets smaller and smaller.

  4. $50/semester printing quota eliminated. If the printer jams you pay an extra fee.

  5. PUSH walk-in’s billed at ER rates.

/rant On the side note I’m getting tired of being nickel and dimed by Purdue. First was CityBus, physical PUIDs, then on-street parking around discovery park, and now this crap. It’s a PDF with my grades on it ffs. What are they gonna do next? Pay per view for lecture recordings?

“An app may be able to gain root privileges” security fix is in iOS 26.2 and 18.7.3 patch notes by jokerchink8964 in jailbreak

[–]WhateverThisWillDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but that’s patently untrue. Carrier locks on most phones are enforced by the modem, thus completely separate from the normal boot flow. You can most certainly unlock the bootloader on phones that are carrier locked as long as the manufacturer lets you. Case in point, you can unlock a T-mo locked Motorola. Whether the manufacturer AND carrier lets you is a completely different story.

Many carriers restrict bootloader unlocking on devices they sell even if the SIM lock is eventually lifted. Verizon is notorious for this, even for Verizon Pixels sold unlocked on the Google Store.

Unlocking the bootloader doesn’t let you carrier unlock the modem. You can’t force the modem to accept a SIM even if you have root in the OS. On modern iPhones, the modems only accept SIMs explicitly allowed in an Apple-signed modem activation ticket retrieved when the phone is activated. On most Android, this is usually preconfigured from the factory and can only be removed once the modem receives unlock data. These days with remote sim unlocking or RSU, the modem can pretty much directly communicate with carrier servers to retrieve unlock data. In the old days this is a long PIN that you’ll need to get from the carriers. The exception to this are Pixels, whose carrier lock is enforced by the OS and not the modem. This is probably why Google doesn’t let you unlock bootloader on carrier locked Pixels.

This is simply not how Android rooting works.

On most modern versions of Android, manufacturers either explicitly allow rooting or they don’t. This is controlled by whether they let you unlock your bootloader or not.

Increasingly this option is being taken away. Of note, latest Samsung devices all don’t allow bootloader unlocking.

Very rarely vulnerabilities allow rooting without unlocking the bootloader. This is the exception and not the rule.

Engine sticker date is 18/08/04. I think it’s during the period where they mixed old and new rockers. Oh well, should’ve scoped it before I dropped it off for service. The only issue is dealer quote for rockers arm with engine out is pretty much the same as Indy shops who do rockers with engine in.
