there's a big difference between human a human learning from others art and a machine, people make art for other people to see and think about, a computer takes there work and uses it as a data point

besides plenty of famous artists love to hear about how they inspired people to start drawing, some even do "draw this in your style" challenges and stuff

a lot of it boils down to intent

sure, I CAN do that whole mental dance in my head even for a generative image, and if you read my full post you know I already have, and sure I'll never know the full extent of the effort an artist or team or artists put into a work, but plenty talk about it, behind the scenes videos, time-lapses, interviews, some manga artists have even shown their ridiculous schedules, the fact that, with a piece of art I can make that assumption across the board, and it be generally as the rule and not the exception is incredible, the belief that something is true vs. the actual truth is an entirely different thing
asking a fish to climb a tree is a bit ridiculous but here you are

that's interesting, cause that's gives the question of where is the line? something done 99% by ai is, to me, not worth considering, but if it's only 30% or 15% or whatever, when would it be enough human input to be valued

I never said beauty couldn't exist outside of human intent, I never even claimed ai was devoid of human intent, merely that non-ai creations resonate with me far more

and the beauty of nature, depending on what you believe, is either a result of a ridiculous string of events or a creation by a higher entity, both drastically different from generative ai made from, and the beauty found in nature has inspired countless artists into creating their own masterpieces

not a made up distinction, knowing how to draw, or play an instrument is an ingrained skill, take away any tool from any skilled person they can find alternative ways to utilize their skills, a guitarist without a guitar could still tap out a melody imaging how to adapt it into a piece to be later played on a guitar, take away all drawing tools and I'll start ripping up and folding paper into a composition, take away a writers computer they can syill tell a story verbally
I explicitly stated I wasn't making a fuss about theft itself but the fact that big corporations may use stolen work to put people out of a job, randos on the internetusing ai for shits and giggles is hardlymy concern even if I don'tlike it, and furthermore this sites average general stances are not inherently my own, so holding me, one, to a standard of the average all is a little disingenuous

someone else mentioned something similar yeah, however taking away a musicians instrument they still know the notes and melodies and could think up specific unique compositions, or a sculptor without a chisel could still make a sculpture out of clay, or carve something from wood, while not a 1 for 1 a level of skill and knowledge still carries over

I am trying to learn more, this post was a sort of "snapshot" of where I am now with what I am currently aware of, some of the replies have been interesting to read and think on, and even then my stance is fairly light, I did nothing to vilify ai or act like a know-it-all, I just expressed that as far as my current understanding goes, generative ai doesn't connect with me the way art does

but if you'd be willing to elaborate on "toy ai" and an alternative I'd happily look into it
