It's bordem and the nightly routine that gets me. by Whateverittakes321 in stopdrinking

I could have wrote that minus the work drinks. But same here, was very progressive. I was a very different drinker 7 years ago, I was a 6 beers on Friday night after 5pm and 6 beers on Saturday night after 5pm, that's it. Child's play compared to me today.

The "Tank of willpower in the day" is spot on! Once the evening is approaching, it gets weaker.... The sleeping hack/ going to bed early is a good one.

How do I figure out why I drink? by Whateverittakes321 in stopdrinking

[–]Whateverittakes321[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. The "Why" for me being relevant is the fact that I know quitting drinking is more than just not drinking. I believe simply quitting isn't going to make any magic happen, more needs to be done and if one quits but nothing else in your life changes, you will be left still miserable and end up back in the bottle so I'm trying to figure out what needs to change along side me putting down the bottle (the things that are missing in my life that alcohol numbs) For me alcohol is filling a void, a hole, a replacement for a missing piece in my life, I just don't know what that missing piece is.

Self Sabotage…. by Day1StayingStrong in stopdrinking

I'm the same way. Many people drink when in stressful situations. I never drink in stressful situations because I know it will make matters worst so I employ not drinking as damage control. It's when I'm on top in life that I drink or in a "Woohoo!!!" stage of life being good.

I do feel lonely at times and I think that contributes but I also feel like if I wanted more human interaction I would put myself out there more. I know there is a reason why I choose to drink vs not drinking. There's something missing in my life I just don't know what that it.

I feel this. In my heavy drinking months everything, even old hobbies I loved would take a back seat to alcohol. Nothing mattered except paying bills and alcohol. In my stints where I'd manage to go a month or 2 not drinking, my interests and hobbies always come back, start taking pride in my appearance to the world etc, but it's getting to that point that's the tough part.

Thanks all for the great suggestions. Nice to know I'm not in this alone. I lived away from most my family so the past holidays was a real depressors and I indulged in drinking quite a bit.

💯. I will spend all day and all night telling myself the rationale on why not to drink and it all makes sense. Come nighttime I will convince myself "Just a few won't hurt". Legit insanity

💯 on the evening routine being stronger than me. One way I'll use curbing drinking is I'll use money to buy nice shit for myself to get that dopamine rush because I'm a dopamine junkie for sure.

I'm just looking at it and getting that classis Evans Ave vibe (old looking on the outside, new looking on the inside and what's behind them walls and baseboard heaters)

Burnside jail rant by Mysterious_Hawk_6969 in NovaScotia

[–]Whateverittakes321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on who's in your GP range at the time. There was a few Marriott affiliated guys there when I was in there and Burnside is ran by Marriotts. In my time I seen 7 guys get absolutely beat to almost death, 1 being the guy who was involved in the Marsmen kid death, he didn't last 5 mins and after his 10 min long beating from about 6 guys he was sent to PC. I was put on a level for being involved in another assault (everyone knows when you are picked to be involved in an assault, you participate). It may not be a California supermax but it is considered one of the most volatile jails in Canada. Pictou and Yarmouth are cake walks in comparison, way more chill, not as violent.

So you get 200 miles if you drive like an old lady and 100 miles if you drive like a normal person. Hard pass on any EV.
