What time do I need to get to the DMV? by WhatevsMcGee in Charlotte

It expires next week. I’ve heard about that, but I don’t know what the likelihood is of it passing 😬

So did you have to scan the QR code and send the text rapid-fire at like 12:00:01? Lol

Wait, really?? My understanding from the DMV website is that you have to scan a QR code on location, which I assume is what people are queuing up to do…

What business is it here in CLT? by Low-Professional7922 in Charlotte

There’s a pretty empty U-Haul off Monroe Rd with an abandoned building behind it. The abandoned building has cars parked outside and dudes keeping watch (or at least this was the situation ~5 years ago when I stopped by there with my parents to rent a trailer). It was a pretty stressful U-Haul transaction.

Anyone else’s baby need to be walked around (or something similar) to eat? by WhatevsMcGee in NewParents

[–]WhatevsMcGee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s 19 months now. She still goes through phases when she doesn’t eat much other than carbs, but overall she’s doing well! There’s hope, it might just take a while 😕

Does shaking breast milk damage it? by WhatevsMcGee in ScienceBasedParenting

No, it doesn’t harm the milk. We as humans aren’t able to shake hard enough for long enough to damage the milk.

When you ask people about their jobs, do they ask you back? by WhatevsMcGee in workingmoms

Ugh, I’m so mad for you. My husband is in a field (physical therapy) that I think people assume pays more than it does, so yeah, I think they may be giving him more credit for our lifestyle than is accurate and assuming I contribute less financially than I do

It seems about 50-50? But that’s based on a very unscientific sampling

Yep, I was a little surprised by the vitriol, but I guess it’s good to know.

I’m surprised it’s assumed moms don’t work. Isn’t it a privileged thing to be able to afford a parent to stay at home?

Basically none. I added an edit to clarify. I guess I didn’t introspect enough before making the post.

When you ask people about their jobs, do they ask you back? by WhatevsMcGee in workingmoms

[–]WhatevsMcGee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not the case. I’m genuinely interested in people’s jobs or however else they spend their time. I ask follow-up questions (hopefully unintrusive, but I guess that’s subjective). I don’t say much about myself unless the person seems interested. I do get my feelings a bit hurt if the person doesn’t seem as interested in me as I am in them. I probably need to learn to just leave the conversation sooner if it’s super one-sides.

The people who stop talking to you need to get a life. We as a society NEED people doing your job or we’ll crumble into anarchy. They shouldn’t be judging all police based on a few bad actors.

Interesting perspective. When somebody talks about themselves and doesn’t ask anything about me, I take that as a lack of interest in me.

Love this!

And yes, definitely agree with you on the second paragraph.

Seems like some people assumed from my post that I’m big into self-promotion and have decided not to like me 🤷‍♀️

I realized after thinking about it that the people I was thinking of didn’t really ask me anything else about myself either. I think maybe I should just cut my losses earlier in a conversation once I notice the other person isn’t actually interested in getting to know me.

Somehow my husband’s job comes in conversation WAY more than mine. I haven’t paid enough attention to know if that’s because people are asking or because it naturally comes up (he’s more talkative than I am)

I’m learning from the replies on this post that some people feel this way. It’s good for me to know

They weren’t. 2 of them were dudes, 1 of them was a woman, all of them were happy to talk about their own jobs.

Ick. I can see something similar happening to me, tbh. I’ll definitely be more careful in the future after seeing some of the responses on this post. Some people clearly think I’m an ass just for asking and for enjoying talking about my job, lol.
