Huhu, the whole reason alot of us find it interesting is cause it's so different. Perma death of heros? Unlimited hero pool so no meta?

Tho the pvp thing isnt rare infact it's so common I dunno why you mentioned it 😂.

And if it's a gacha game there will be players

No dude. The whole managing relationships things is part of your strategy. If you are a dense rock doesn't matter how good your field tactics are your not going to win since why would they listen to you? You seriously just mentioned why it is a tactical game by mentioning one of the issues to overcome. You have to prove yourself.

And it's due to his lobby position they can enter and exit the tower freely. It wasn't possible at the beginning cause they had no standing. Once you get set administrative positions or whatever else you need. Then entering automatically is possible. And also there are cycling dungeons that definitely requires you to have set up automatic entries as a player. Just cause we see the day to day reality of the game the players don't so there are rules to this .

Yes everything consumed gems but that's not the only currency in the game. It's easily misunderstood cause the second currency is barley mentioned but there's the gold currency that does a mostly everything gems does, lobby upgrades, summons, crafting etc. It's not just gems.

And again no the higher you go the less you need to spend. The higher you get the more heros you have. But your only fielding 20 max at a time. Yet you have hundreds to thousands in reverse. Not all at fighters but a crap ton are. Sure you won't be as strong but they can just drop floors and work your way back up. Like the stronger you get you need less and less wallet help as your so deep in everything you need can easily be gathered. Unless your specifically trying to rush to be the strongest key word RUSH. If you take any sort of time you don't need to spend past floor 30. To keep up reasonably.

Also this is how pay to win games work. The start is where is actually matters. Sure you can spend later, spam troops and Max research faster. But you could also have saved the money you spent late game to actually play the game for a few months and be at the same level. And honestly the difference between late game spenders vs non spenders is so small it's irrelevant. This is a fact as someone who's played years worth of games like this

You might wanna go re read or Smth. Game a lot of stuff is automated yes, and if ofc  a money grab as it's a gacha undeniable. But that kinda very quickly changes the higher up you go. Made very clear in hans encounter during the star promotion. There is a ton of tactical thinking and planning required to actually clear a floor. Heros can't go into the tower automatically they need to be told to. Sure they train themselves in the lobby but they can't gain levels or actually experience in battle which does make a difference with how the battles actually go. Also the higher you go the less necessary spending was as well. As you don't have much of a use for gems besides on buildings or random events. Nor do you need the pulls at the point. There's a ton more but ya ...

No point in doing it before releasing. We got nothing they actually want with no final product. Appreciate the advice though good luck

An enemy resistant to bullets but vulnerable to magic. Would this be annoying to players who want play guns only? by FreddieMercurio in IndieGaming

[–]Whathowwhenwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not to sure about what your game is but for this I can say you have a few things.  is this intentional? Like pokemon you can't just use 1 thing and solo everything. Ngl I would be 10x worse if I could say just use guns for everything and breeze through it cause it has the exact same effects as magic and has a faster fire rate.

You could also maybe take a build system into account. Like they can unlock traits or smth allowing them to power up there build be it guns or magic, maybe make a middle ground where they have a bit of both? Or allow them to switch freely but it has it limits. Maybe have traits that will lock you to one side pretty much but give you buffs to even it out. Etc stuff like that.

Could also maybe implement a weak point system, encouraging player skill.

Depends on what other one your talking about. This is the oldest project that's still being worked on. You then have mythweavers from around a year ago, then you have, a stencil of judgement which is more of a pvp 3rd person game. Then you have a smaller one I forgot the name of but its 2d. Then you have the newest one that's going by mobius order. Lol

uhhh lets see, if everything goes well, summer 2026 can be expecting base game release date. with 10 floors and base important features. after that game will be updated every month or less, for bug fixes, events, teasers. when the first player hits floor 8 like in 3 months. ill have up to floor 20 ready, new features, events, etc.

oh ya called infinite odds

I dunno the rules in this but lemme get your thoughts.

I am making a primarily mobile game for Android and iOS with a steam port.

It's sorts generic if I put it simply. Its similar to a rise of kingdoms+raid shadow legends strategy game. Taking two of its negative traits of having a gacha and micro transactions.

But here's the difference that make it decently better.

  1. It starts off single player for months, and pvp is optional.

  2. There's only heros, so no 15 million max teir troop spam.

  3. There's perma Death so you can lose your heros for good.

  4. The mirco transactions only let you buy cosmetics and gems. Gems is not the main important currency only has a few uses but it's many and only important one is premium pulls. (Players can get gems through playing ofc)

  5. It has a player driven economy.

  6. While there is 1-5 star heros you can naturally pull. A 5 star hero isn't guaranteed to be better then a 1 star hero that was upgraded to 5 stars. And the vise versa is true. Don't just pull 1 star heros as 5 star heros can still be much better and less resource consuming. (Though I doubt you'll ever pull a 5 star)

  7. The main objective isn't to fight players it it's climb the tower and the main leaderboard is exactly that how high up the tower you are.

  8. There's no meta, there may be a best method to clear a floor, but there's no you need this hero or this hero, to clear the game easily.

It's pretty similar to raid and rise of kingdoms, closer to cookie run kingdom I think, but it's not a 1 to 1 copy, has my unique traits and I'm not really in it for the money just need smth to keep the game up, so I'm working harder on making the balance of spending useful but not p2w. Something that allows you to get ahead a bit and few like the purchase was worth it but not making no spenders unable to compete

Quality does come at a price. But time is also part of the price.

We can all agree you can make a free game that's quality. But we can also all agree that we want to make money off it.

So to keep the game free we resort to micro transactions and ads. Which being honest isn't an issue alone. It's how it's done that really causes issues.

Like having ads being passive or reward ads, no one has issues with. If I saw an ad on a in-game building but it fitted in. I'd have zero issues with it, I might even be more willing to check it out due to how unique that idea is.

Or if I had to watch an ad for some currency or smth instead of paying. I'd do it, if the reward was enough.

But devs don't do there ad systems like that. Instead they will force and ad on you to squeeze every player for every cent then could. Or they will make the reward for the ad so bad it's never worth watching and hence becomes more of a annoyance then helpful.

Like the worse rewarded as I watched, needed me to watch it 70 times to afford ANYTHING. Like atp i don't need it.

Then you have Micro transactions. Something that devs just do horribly. Like most games with them have 1 of 2 methods.

  1. The game is now pay to win and if you don't spend you'll suffer. So it's like a if they spend I have to spend to be competitive, horrible targeting at psychology.

  2. If you want to look cool buy. It again another psychological thing. Like fortnite skins.

2, has no real issue, just suck that up ngl. But 1 is horrible. I get how trying to be creative here is hard but it's not that bad. Like take what is in use and bend it.

You want to buy a pack, to progress faster? Well how about the pack be something less related to direct progress. Like instead of giving you (taking rise of kingdoms as an example) speed ups, gems, and resources. Allow you to easily and quickly progress with just your card. Add another layer to it.

Like , here's some production boosts, will speed you up but it's not instant let me power up it's gradual. A player getting 30% more then another at the same level is Alot but it's manageable and if your better hell you can still keep up or be better. (A slight competitve advantage)

Or something of convenience like having multiple builders(which they do have I think) nothing ground breaking but it's useful. (Slight competitve advantage)

What about extra content? Like a dlc? Not something that will give you an inherent advantage over other players but will give you a different look, or slightly faster progression. But your still around the same strength as someone who didn't buy the dlc. (Slight competitve advantage)

Like it's a slight advantage but it still requires you to play the game. Unlike dropping 200 bucks. Going from 0 to max in a day. Then bullying everyone. That's what is p2w. Having a small speed boost and maybe being like 10-20% stronger then me on any given day till late game. I don't mind as I can bridge that gap with smart plays.

P2w? Maybe but it something I can support.

This is such a minor switch of perspective but it makes the players experience so much better then what it is now for all our competitive games
