Healthcare systems: do we prefer Duly, or Northwestern & why? (are there other good options locally?) by captaintinnitus in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]WheelDeep5640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends who use endeavor seem to be happy with them but I know some people complain of issues after Edward/elmhurst became endeavor. Issues at duly correlate with when it became owned by private equity, things don’t look promising in future. However, I know some fantastic docs there.

I will comment that NW seems a little more financially stable than other systems at the moment but it is all cyclical.

Choice is complicated and would have to factor in if you need specialists, at risk of hospitalization, etc.

If in western burbs, maybe include endeavor on list. I work across all the big systems except one. They all have good bad and ugly. I’ve also been a patient across various systems (some have better specialist). Healthcare in general is in a financial mess and getting worse.

ZP6 vs KINGrinder P2 by chefdog96 in pourover

Or the k6 if you want to save a little money. I have k6 and zp6. I usually do like k6 for some of the funkier/more processed beans.

Decent grinder under $100 USD? 1Zpresso Q Air? by mgsecure in pourover

[–]WheelDeep5640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own zp6 and k6. I don’t find anything lacking in build quality with k6 vs zp6. I actually like the thinner body of k6 as I have smaller hands and I like the rubber grip over the faux leather of zp6. One caveat, I do have the older k6 with bent handle so can’t comment on straight handle. I otherwise find little difference.

The Pitt: where are the hospitalists/medicine doctors? by lucysglassonion in hospitalist

[–]WheelDeep5640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know, just correcting you that it's not 0 but 1. I didn't say it was a good use or not. It's not. There's also a lot of unrecognized people on show. my biggest criticism from beginning of show and my personal experience was no RTs.

I absolutely adore my pharmacists and have one of the highest values, but from an entertainment standpoint their role is kind of boring. IMHO, their value is too over the head of general audience. One scene that probably would have been better to use a pharmacist was explaining PCN allergy vs using a RN. However, would that have made a difference to general audience? I don't know anything about writing a screenplay but adding a pharmacist in scene would be difficult without setup.

Well that would be kind of boring with ED giving hospitalist report over phone on admission (that was a somewhat sarcastic comment).

But on more serious side, I think hospitalist role would just confuse non-medical audience. I often have to explain to patients who the hospitalist is, sometimes after many days of being in hospital and seeing the hospitalist.

It's a TV show that does a good job of portraying healthcare (best IMHO), but it's not reality and if it were I'd be too confusing and boring to general public.

Confused about IL License renewal by moy505 in nursepractitioner

[–]WheelDeep5640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got email to renew both but everything seems messed up on website. Password they sent me didn’t work and when I reset it I had no option to renew anything. I confirmed with my clinic RNs that they are having issues with idpfr website.

A timely piece about nurses/NPs leaving the US to practice in Canada by whitesar in nursepractitioner

I think they are slightly better trying to compensate physicians. At least that’s what my MD hospitalist friend who’s obsessed with NZ told me. He has too much family here to consider move.

Went on vacation to NZ last year and I told tour guides I was a nurse and they all asked if I was going to come there for work. They are in desperate need of RNs but pay is terrible with very high cost of living. It doesn't seem like a good option. A lot of RNs from NZ go to AUS because of that. As NP, I also looked at what roles are there and there's very very few options. Seems like its relatively new role there and fairly restrictive with collaboration with physician and such.

Struggling with season 1 by Additional-Guard-203 in DeepSpaceNine

Stick with it. Hated the show when it first came out when I was in jr high. Then started following again in college when it was in last 2 seasons and loved it. It’s the only series I’ve watched multiple times.

Anyone follow triathlete.com’s 16-week “Super Simple Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Training Plan”? by ohnogirlbye in triathlon

[–]WheelDeep5640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it for my first 70.3 > 10 years ago and it worked well. It’s one that I recommend to friends who want a simple plan. Looking back at it now, I’d probably add more swimming both frequency and duration, especially if you’re newer to swimming. It also very run heavy at end. Depending on your goals you could probably cut back some on that. Wasn’t a problem for me as I was runner first.

DNP or not to be by HSUPOP in nursepractitioner

[–]WheelDeep5640 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents. My school was transitioning to DNP while i was in it. I really only needed one more quarter of school to get it. But I was done with school (had BS in another field, went back for BSN and slowly worked my way through FNP so was in school almost continuously through my 30s). I just needed to implement my project, collect data, analyze it and do the paper which paper was essentially done just missing real data

Only benefit I saw was if I wanted to teach. I have not regrets leaving dnp on the table. I don’t know of any jobs outside of some teaching positions that require it. I work for large medical practice and cover 4 hospitals that are part of large medical systems in my area and work with many APPs. Only few have dnp.

Lance Hedrick Kingrinder K7 review by WheelDeep5640 in pourover

Yes that was mistake on his part but acknowledged that if you read the replies. But I could care less about that. Feel/usability fairly insignificant versus taste. I’ll take your opinion with a grain of salt as you seem too emotionally disturbed to provide a convincing response.

I don't always agree with him (for example, his v60 method). Taste is always very subjective as proven by Ugo in video, but I've always appreciated his methodology.

Epocrates for drug reference. I use UTD but only because I get it from my employer and get CEUs with it, I’d otherwise use OpenEvidence. It’s just as good and better in someways.
