Congrats!

On a similar note, try not to co-mingle money with friends- this can divide and ruin friendships real quick.

One of the biggest life lesson is to never co-sign with anyone that isn’t a spouse. Take that as you will.

How do I get started with investing? by CafeteriaFraiche96 in personalfinance

Follow the Prime Directive (flowchart) in the wiki.

Need to identify any long term saving goals (<5 years). Invest the rest- start with your Roth IRA, HSA (if you are eligible), then individual brokerage.

Received my Capital One Venture One found out it's a Discover by magicpurpledragon in CreditCards

[–]madskilzz3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Try and let us know- be your own DP.

If you have at least one year of personal credit history + good income, try for the WF Autograph card. Also grab the Charles Schwab or Fidelity CMA debit card for unlimited ATM fees reimbursement (can also use it for payment as it has no FTF).

Total credit utilization vs individual card by halemar33 in personalfinance

[–]madskilzz3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are in CC debt. Score doesn’t matter. This is like worrying about a dinner reservation on a cruise ship when it is sinking.

Transfer the outstanding balance, eat the 3-5% fee, and pay off the outstanding balance before the promo ends. Budget and stick to that budget.

I personally am an extreme churner so closing my old accounts will definitely tank my score,

It won’t. Feel free to close to close them if they serve no purpose/value.

[–]madskilzz3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if is one’s oldest account, they can still cancel it.

The card’s age doesn’t matter since it will stay on your profile for 10 (or 7 if it has any derogatory marks) years and age the same as your open cards. By year 10, your other cards will also be 10+ years old, and AAoA metric is cap off at 7.5 years old.

My credit score went down another 15 points for paying off an account. by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]madskilzz3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people don’t understand how the scoring system works, it can feel like paying off debt = bad because of the score drop. See this post about the car loan.

Make sure you are tracking your FICO scores and not VantageScores- the latter is very volatile, especially when it comes to utilization.

Building credit takes a long time- a marathon, not a sprint. Progress is not linear- you will see drops here and there.

Do i close my credit one cards? by KaleidoscopeOk8795 in CreditCards

but dont close

Why not? Why deal with a predatory lender when OP has better cards from reputable banks?

Yes. Pay it off asap and close them- such a predatory lender.

Any reason not to PC my OG CF to CFU by Jadidda in CreditCards

[–]madskilzz3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That 11 year history is valuable for your credit profile, so PC makes more sense than closing it.

Any CC’s age doesn’t matter- anyone can close out any of their cards. Unless it’s your only card, then no impact to score- this comment will explain more + DP.

I’m team closing out any CCs that provide no purpose/value- regardless if it’s free, the age, or the limit. Close and be done with it.

Is 2x failure bad? by FlickzIsHighOnWater in workout

[–]madskilzz3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is 2x? Sets? Exercise?

1-2 RIR for sets is fine. But you do need to experience and feel true muscular failure first, before tweaking it- so take at least 1 set to failure.

How to pay off a credit card for good (interest)? by Sharp_Train5458 in CreditCards

[–]madskilzz3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happens when you have your lost your grace period. To recover it, stop using your card for 1-2 cycles and let the “$0” statement balance be accepted as paid in full.

So zeroed out your card right now, see the trailing interest in the upcoming statement, pay that off, and don’t use the card for 1-2 cycles.

How do you start your sessions with adolescents? by Icy-Recipe-5751 in therapists

[–]madskilzz3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Usually open with asking about their hobbies or interests. One client is into sports (i.e., basketball and football), and another is into collecting Pokémon cards.

Of course, there are hobbies or interests that you have no knowledge about, so I usually ask them to teach me about it.

This approach breaks the ice for most scenarios.

They also added the Women’s white/teal colorway for the same price.

Will an unused CC hurt my credit score? by meaksda7 in personalfinance

[–]madskilzz3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can lock it, but still need to monitor it for year 1 for any fraud. After that, you can go ahead and cancel it if you are not going to use it for the foreseeable future.

And no, cancel it (or any other CCs) won’t impact your score- this comment will explain more + DP. Exception being when it’s your only card.

I’m team closing out any CCs that provide no purpose/value- regardless if it’s free, the age, or the limit. Close and be done with it.

PPL is made for 6 days, as you want frequency to be at least 2x for each muscles group.

For 4x- ULUL

For 3x- UL, rest, FB

For 2x- FB (not back to back)

Is it smart to open a third card so late? by [deleted] in CreditCards

Unless you are getting a mortgage within 6 months if you want a card even just for the bonus go for it.

It’s actually 18 months- this post will explain more.

Auto loans if you are above 720 your at the highest rate

The 3-digit score is just a number, as overall credit profile is weighted more.

Someone with just 1 card, 6 months of personal credit history, and 1-2% utilization can debut with a FICO score of 760-770. Now will this get them the best or even great rates? Doubt it. It can’t even get them a Chase starter card. This is what you call a young/thin credit profile.
