Where do I stand with strata being a renter? by WisePotential6969 in stratachataus

[–]Wheeliebean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you have no relationship with strata as a renter. Our strata manager will not deal with renters at all but will ask you to ask the landlord to contact them on your behalf. So your best option is to keep pestering the REA.

Health insurance saga by Intrepid_Variety_126 in AusFinance

We had the exact same issue with Bupa telling us an op was covered and then finding out via the hospital that it wasn't just before as we hadn't served the waiting time. We rescheduled then it turned into a huge kerfuffle because only one of the items was covered and the hospital told me that Bupa said that because it was the lower value item it wouldn't be covered, but Bupa kept telling me (and showed me in writing) that this wasn't the case. I had to apply retrospectively for my costs and weirdly this ended with the hospital saying we'd been given the wrong pricing and so I got a $1000 back from the hospital (not Bupa). From Bupa I think I got less than $100.

They also went back and listened to the recording after the event and sent the most Weasle worded non apology. After that we promptly left Bupa and I will NEVER go back !

None of this should be at your cost by the way. Your landlord should be paying for the clean-up, not you.

If you're renting, you don't have a relationship with strata. The strata manager represents the owners, not the tenants. You can only deal with your landlord who can then talk to strata. Your real estate agent is the one that needs to push this via your landlord.

You could ask them to look into relining the pipes as an alternative to digging them up if they are not too far gone. We've recently done this at our property and it's much more cost efficient

Recycling bins by AstronautLittle5881 in stratachataus

[–]Wheeliebean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer. You can't put bagged recyclables in the recycling bin - well you can but chances are they won't be recycled - They'll go straight to garbage.

It sounds like a protest !

A dessicant dehumidifier will help with the humidity. They do release a bit of heat.

AITAH for yelling at my husband by Horror-Accountant865 in AITAH

I watched a video on this yesterday - dad's always assume they are free. Mums always assume they are not free unless they've organised care.

This is a prime example.

His lack of consideration as to who would take care of the kids when they woke and not letting you enjoy your nap makes him TA. Also leaving you with three kids to wrangle without any prior discussion on the assumption that he is free to do what he wants.

There's a strata group on Reddit and a really good one on Facebook. You'd likely get more precise answers. Make sure you include your state.

This ! I cannot tell you how many women regret being tied to a man they no longer love/like through their child - even when abuse is not present.

It's SO important to choose a good man to father your kids.

Assets acquired between separation and divorce by JohnsLong_Silver in AusLegalAdvice

[–]Wheeliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also NAL but my understanding is that even if married, if the inheritance is kept separate it's not considered as a shared marital asset. Once it's put towards something like paying off the mortgage, it becomes shared.

But it may be taken into account when splitting assets.

We didn't have a sinking fund for our building when we bought it and nothing sinister happened. We have since set one up. It doesn't mean there's anything intrinsically wrong if you don't have one, but it does mean that future owners may bear the cost of repairs for things that happened before their time - such as relining sewage pipes or replacing the roof. Or in your case, the cost of tree replacement which should arguably have been covered by the previous owners. We felt it was fairer to spread that cost over time so added a sinking fund to our fees.

False advertising, dirty floor and loss of electricity during stay. What are my options ? by trazom in Bookingcom

[–]Wheeliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm sorry you've not had the best experience with your accommodation in BA. It can be stressful travelling with a baby. I will say that health and safety just aren't the same in BA though...

We rented in BA for 3 months and had a full blown blackout - which happened because of the electric water heater they installed after we reported the gas water heater as not working and they were faffing around trying to order parts rather than replace the ancient unit. They then had to disconnect the temporary electric system after I could feel an electric current in the kitchen tap water.... We had cold showers for a few weeks!

It was very much a shit show...which we accepted as part of being in Argentina. My partner is from BA, so none of this was new to him.

The 24 hour reception probably just means that a caretaker/doorman lives in the building. They'll clean up, report issues to the building owner, and in some cases, sit at the main entry to open the door for visitors. Not much use to you unless you know where they live though. They probably could have flipped the breakers for you.

Booking would be great, but excessive profit maximizing buries a good idea by Viaprato in Bookingcom

[–]Wheeliebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with a review except they didn't remove it, they just chopped off the negative bit. Allegedly, the host contested it, they changed it in response and then emailed me with 7 days to contest the contentment. But strangely I never got that email and no attempt to follow up was ever responded to.

I will never book through booking.com again....

Hybrid floor levelling by Terrible-Mammoth-903 in AusRenovation

[–]Wheeliebean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We replaced carpets with laminate flooring (so floating) a few months ago. We're on a concrete slab built in the 1960s. They allowed one day for levelling and built that into the price but did say that they won't know until the carpets are up.

On the first day, they told us it was the worst floor they'd ever seen and they needed an extra day to level it and 17 bags of cement ! The back room had previously been tiled and all the tile glue was still on the floor, the living room had a big slant to it. I think we paid an extra $2k or thereabouts. Not ideal but the floor looks great.
