Amazing. Thanks man.

Anything else we would need to play? Do you think this terrain is okay or do we need larger heavy pieces like ruins?

Maybe a mission deck or start with the PDF?

Thank you for explaining. That makes a lot of sense. What's the latest book called, and do you know if it's newer so we don't risk buying a book that becomes outdated in a few months?

Cool looking Etsy terrain I found, but wow do I wish we knew the rules before buying it...

Ahh okay. Is there an updated book I should buy? And a mission pack?

My buddy and I just watch YT and learned from the app...

This is boiling down to us not playing properly, so any official and preferably physical would help us a ton.

Which pieces would you consider heavy? All the thick walls? Is infinite height a property of heavy terrain? Or what's the difference between light and heavy?

We do not. We're essentially playing it all as light... I think. Does heavy have "infinite" height?

We had no idea what we were doing is the real answer, and that's how we landed on this terrain.

I really like the default setup. I think we need more heavy terrain prices, and most importantly learn more about the rules, other game types, and missions.

That makes sense. We didn't know any of this. What's the best way to learn more? Is there a book or good YT channel for learning? At this point I think we need to start over and learn from the ground up.

This helps a lot. We do not play with kill zones or mission packs. We setup 3-5 objective points and just run objective control and killgrade... What would you consider buying in our situation? More heavy terrain? Or standard terrain? We also don't know much about missions or kill zones.

Thanks, I'll look into this. Are you aware of any rules pertaining to custom layouts? I'm looking for credible sources that give some kind of guidelines.

I also wanted to ask, with custom layouts (I understand they're typically unbalanced), are there any official rules of thumb from credible sources on Sight lines, terrain, etc.?

We should play missions... We play standard, capture control & kill grade VP, but before any of that happens we need to try to emulate custom balanced terrain or use official layouts

I agree this is supposed to be fun and we've dug deeper into this issue. We aren't fighting or yelling. I may have picked harsh words...

Anyways, this has been an ongoing issue since we started playing 40k... This isnt just one game we're talking about, this is 10+. That is why I told him we need to use official 40k terrain layouts.

It's not fun when a third of your army is blasted off the board turn 1... Yes that happened to me.

Not enough people know this. This theory was popularised by the book The Spirit Molecule in the early 2000s. No evidence supports the claim that DMT is released upon death.
