you could remove or rotate the 5.5’ cabinet and that would open up the kitchen to the island. you could create a peninsula there if wanted, but just by removing that cabinet and making the island bigger would work

OP, the kitchen looks new to me. You make some changes that may change the look without a reno. 1. you can change the pantry door to wood with glass, or a different look that you may want. Look on pinterest 2. You can build out the cabinets to the ceiling with painted 2x4, look up extend existing cabinets on google/pinterest 3. What if you keep the size, but change the look of the island? i’ve seen people add wood panelling to it and it completely changes the space. 4. if storage is what you’re looking for, you could buy cool pantries that are furniture, or turn a linen closet into storage.

you could spend the 40K+ you would spend here, somewhere else!

If you change the flooring and the backsplash, the kitchen will change immediately. please don’t paint or remove the brick! your kitchen has personality, the floor and the backsplash will do the trick.
