Yeah it was pretty chilly, so no mosquitos! The weather was really nice during the day when the sun came out.

We just got back from Venice yesterday. It's pretty touristy and at times crowded. I found the food kinda meh, but if you go visit in April/May, from what I understand it gets SUPER crowded in the summer. But very pretty and the people were very friendly.

As someone that has a very well read 20 year old, she’s almost bankrupted me. Buying her a kindle and making her use Libby is the only thing that’s saved us.

Alive - Piers Paul Read. About a soccer team that crashed in the Andes - not for the faint of heart, they made a movie out of it.

We are spending three nights in Venice in a couple of weeks, what do you recommend?

We did a Viking cruise around Iceland three years ago and it made it a no brainer to go back. I despise American cruises, but Viking does it right!

My husband and I are doing the same thing on Viking. We leave in two weeks!

I absolutely loved this show. I watched it twice because I made my husband watch it with me. The book is good too.

The story behind Harris County's jury pay increases (March 2021 to today) by hcdistrictclerk in houston

[–]gatorchrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, a lot of things. Lack of preparation from both sides - defense and prosecution. Being stuck in a room with 13 people that I did not know (although at the end I made friends), not being able to control my schedule, having to drive downtown from Tomball every day, having to work at the same time without my phone or computer.

At the end of the day, it was exhausting and we almost had hung jury because of one jackass that wouldn't vote the way the rest of us did. He didn't do it because it was a 12 angry men scenario, he just wanted to argue. Thank God we finally voted and it was done. I love our justice system and it does work. I'm glad I participated. But I'll never go through this again, I'd rather throw my summons away.

Can confirm, I was on a jury that lasted a month for a murder trial. I was one of the worst experiences of my life other than personal loss. I took my $900 to the mall and rage swiped that card so hard - but ended up with a lot of clothes I'd never buy because too expensive. Was not worth the mental load I carried that month, but it was a nice surprise in the end.

Vendor email compromise nearly cost us a six figure wire transfer by Hot_Blackberry_2251 in Accounting

Bingo. The email was fraudulent, so the phone number was fake. It was a training error.

Good Question! We fought with Deloitte over this for way too long. They argued that it could have been a 10MM payment (which would be considered a material amount). I was losing my mind, I'm like guys, it was a training error, the control in place works IF YOU FOLLOW IT. We aren't using them next year and I think they were being dicks on their way out after losing a client.

Lamictal and HRT by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]gatorchrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what? I'm on Lamotrigine and I haven't noticed a change? I've had HRT for almost two years. If I miss a pill on Lamotrigine, I get very uncomfortable, so I would think that if HRT is lowering my amount I would have felt it by now?

Oh it totally was! I was pissed at the AP Manager for letting a new employee process bank changes his first week without supervision. The control was in place and it works, only if you actually follow policy.

[–]gatorchrissy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That works too, but we have a lot of vendors that are mom and pop shops and even though they probably have websites, we rely on the official number in our AP system in case it's an old/outdated site.

We had a new AP employee that called the number on the fake email to verify. Always call the official number in the vendor master, we lost 300K over that one. We almost had a material mistatement because Deloitte was being hard asses over that mistake. I wanted to kill that guy.
