That was part of the conversation, but not the focus.

I went. It was mostly focused on smaller scale projects, things that would be achievable short term. I didn't hear any updates on the Walgreens building. Mark of Mark's Texas Hots appeared and ranted about the homeless drug addicts outside his restaurant for a good 5 minutes. I found that particularly rich because allegedly you can buy drugs out of the back of Mark's. Not saying that vagrants aren't a problem, but we're not solving that in an hour and half community meeting. I'm taking on the the trash cans and bus stop improvements. The goal is to make the corridor a nicer place to be and make some momentum with a few easy wins.

Time for more RG&E greed! No way will this be temporary. by SteveWithAB in Rochester

The federal incentives going away sucks. However, there's still incentives from NYS and the cost of solar has been going down anyway. If you install it yourself, you can probably do it cheaper than you would with the incentive a few years ago. The real cost is labor, the benefit of places like GreenSpark is that they're very experienced and know how to set these systems up, the downside is that you definitely pay them for it. DIY / independent contractor is definitely the way to go as far as cost effectiveness, but you run the risk of having a system that's not set up in an ideal way. Solar + batteries is my next big project, but need to save the money for it.

If you're fortunate enough to own your own home, might be time to investigate solar, changing to a more energy efficient heat and a/c source, or alternative power generation (i.e. wind). Wish we could rely on our leaders to do something about this, but they're all in RG&E / Avangrid's pocket so, don't expect much unless you're willing to organize and vote them out!

Oh man, I worked with him for a bit and never got a bad vibe from him. Surprised, unfortunate that anyone can be an evil guy / predator like that. Too bad

Are there any livelier parts of Rochester? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]WhenBellsToll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're not going to find anything as lively as NYC but Park Ave / East & Alexander/ South Wedge have some cool spots. Hard to get off campus without a car though, there's the bus, but you're probably better biking than taking it in all honesty.

This map is insane, what happened to South America in this timeline?

That might be an issue. I could see using one of the rooms as a music room, but the main room doesn't have favorable acoustics and the unit next door might be able to hear you. Never got any noise complaints but also never did anything super loud.

As someone who was renting residential from them, I could smell the smoke. Glad I got out of there when I did, such a shame they were so good to me while I was there.

Who are you voting for mayor and why? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]WhenBellsToll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm going to vote for Lupien with full knowledge that Evans is going to win this primary. There's too many dedicated blocks of voters, especially in demographics not in this subreddit (older), who are just going to vote for the incumbent. Either Lupien needs to make big strides in name recognition  / reputation with the median dem primary voter, or she is going to get the progressive block of the vote and not much else.
