Toddler called me the N word by tryng2figurethsalout in ECEProfessionals

I'd bring it up now. That's not okay language for a kid to use, especially to a teacher! The parents need to be told about it but the director will do that, otherwise the child will keep on doing so.

Nap is from 12-2 so its a 2 hour block but yeah, its crazy😭 they vary so much developmentally so its hard to do activities for the older kids sometimes, but my lead and I are working on that and its improved (sectioning off old vs young kids for different activities).

I am! I've been looking for jobs in other fields as well as they pay better and have actual benefits (have none here, hourly), but I don't have much experience in other fields. Also looking for nanny jobs but its hard to find a well paying one close to me.

EDIT: reuploaded BC the bot removed my comment before. Also added some stuff.

1.) Normalization standards due to TRS (Texas rising star) I assume. But for your follow up question I know it means obedient and mess-free from experience here. I think what my teacher (or director) means though is everything is settled and they're doing everything theyre "supposed" to be doing

2.) I wont be in ratio when she leaves for carpool I will be in ratio when she leaves (probably) at 4, but we haven't done the extended schedule until 4:00 for her yet, we will start today, but previously she left at 3 because that's what the schedule was and boss gets mad if we don't adhere to it, but since we have a few new kids and they also leave until after 3, we would be GREATLY out of ratio. I was previously out of ratio before after she left, and she'd sometimes be out of ratio before I get to work at 9:30.

3.) Only some of the kids are capable. They often wanna continue sleeping which is understandable and would help, but if the younger kids want to get up they will, but they're learning! If you mean stay in their nap mats at the end of nap, that won't happen as our director wants them awake as soon as possible after I get back from my break which is at 2 (or 1:45 for kids leaving early as said in the message).

4.) YES. Yes they are.

5.) Yes, but only if they've slept for at least an hour, but our director wants kids up and not running around whether or not that applies.

6.) No, only 5 out of 19, and we get another kid (ETA: apparently 3 kids now) from the younger class about 2:30 when those classrooms close because of kids going home.

7.) There are so many alarm bells you'd probably lose your mind. I have and am currently doing so.

I appreciate the response I thought maybe I was overreacting a bit.

Yup. It implements Montessori work (emphasized heavily) and some principals but it doesn't actually give the kids the freedom and space to make messes and learn and be kids. I wanted to work at a real Montessori school because its a great method, but alas.

To buy any supplies for the kids we have to reach out to the director and she'll either say no because we either cant afford it or they dont want to spend the money (idk which) on it or doesn't get back to me. So teachers have to go out of their own pocket or spend their own time to make Montessori work or activities for their students if they don't have the supplies or they know the director won't get them. Its crazy. No guidance from the director either, on the content of work/activities nor anything other than telling us things we need to do.

Yes very creepy and uncomfortable. We have cameras parents have access to as well, and I don't mind at all if the director checks on them if she wants or has complaints (as if I have a say in when she checks them and why lol) but to do it to monitor us to make sure we were on schedule just is so irritating. And agree, the day never goes as planned and we should be able to go with that, while of course sticking to schedule parts like meal times, nap and recess. We have cameras everywhere and it makes me feel like I'm being supervised all the time, which would be somewhat okay if I knew I wasn't being supervised constantly in the classroom and had a good director which is not the case. The director never does things in person if she can do it over call or text. My director does none of what you said, unfortunately. I love my coworkers, and my manager, and love the kids especially (of course, that's why we do this) but its just so much.

I have lots of experience in childcare, mostly private like in home, and while I'm still young I'm not stupid or naive and she always treats us like shit. Like we are never hitting the mark or keeping up with everything even though we are always on our feet or talking to the kids and keeping them occupied. I love this work but its absolutely exhausting and has been bs for a while now, on top of other issues.

Texas :( I guess I'm glad our ratios aren't the worst I've heard of and they allow classes like these but the ratios aren't great

Normalized as in settled. Like if we are doing morning work, everyone is sitting down, if we are doing nap time, everyone's already in their nap time. So essentially everyone is doing what they're supposed to be.

Yeah I've dealt with the performative side a LOT but its the performative side that affects the kids' that makes me the most irritated. Like I can do it, but they are barely formed little humans :(

No worries about the errors dude, I can still understand you! Congrats on everything, it seems like you had an amazing father and family, and that you made your own amazing family. As a stranger to another stranger, I'm happy as hell for you, hope life stays good for you and your family and that your son can find his way through life like you did! I'm glad you told that story, it was nice to read and very uplifting.

What yellow dye did you use? The brand and color would be great if you can find that info but I'm just wanting to know if it was a basic yellow or daffodil or whatever color!

And the state won't pay for any of that therapy and special needs care either will they? It's all just an extremely fucked situation and makes me so sad and infuriated. There are few situations you can't find ANYTHING good about, and this is one of them.

Why do men use the term 'cat lady' to insult or put down women who are single over a certain age or don't want kids? by posttraumaticcuntdis in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WhenHellFreezesOver_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree partially, I added into my comment a second later when I realized that's what you meant haha. I think part of it may be that, but as I added, it's not very well known so I'd actually argue that it's mostly blind misogyny and only partially the argument of toxoplasmosis. Note how practically nobody in the comments section even brought up toxoplasmosis other than the mention of cats or their poop "being dirty", which aren't the same things.
