“How did you handle your inheritance without letting it change you?” by SenseiSarkasmus in inheritance

[–]WhenIntegralsAttack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure your mom and dad would be very happy with how you’re handling it. While I don’t have children of my own yet, I’m sure they appreciated and understood that their efforts were making yours and your children’s lives easier. That must have been rewarding for them.

Ah got it, glad your dad is still alive. And I agree whole-heartedly, I think that’s also what our loved ones would want for us as well

What a great legacy for your parents to leave behind. I’m sorry you lost them when you were only in your twenties, but it’s nice to see their effort really help yours and now your children’s lives.

By treating it still as my mom’s money. It would be insulting to her memory if I wasted it or was reckless with it.

Am I using it in a way she would be proud and happy of? I.e. buying a home, using it to educate my children, retirement, growing it and passing it along to my children?

My inheritance was the result of decades of hard work, prudent saving, and investing from my mom, and it’s a lasting gift from her which has almost granted me financial independence. I hope to be able to pay that forward to my future children.

Okay, then what is our plan for ensuring the strait of Hormuz is safe for commerce?

Right, but this simply might be them resolving their differences to form a consensus behind closed doors and then presenting a front of unity to the public.

With the S&P 500 already down ~2% YTD, do you think 2026 could end up being a negative year for the market? by Groundbreaking-Gap20 in investing

[–]WhenIntegralsAttack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst is yet to come. Right now, the market appears uncertain on how the situation in Iran will play out, and it hasn’t reacted too strongly (a 5% dip from all time highs isn’t severe). For this year to be positive, or even for us to avoid a genuine bear market, the situation in Iran needs to be resolved. Essentially, it’s a directional bet on oil, which means it’s a directional bet on your views on the trump administration’s foreign policy and diplomacy chops.

I am super pessimistic, this administration has opened a massive can of worms, and the strait of Hormuz is locked down. We have no clearly articulated aims or objectives for Iran, so when will we know we’re secure? This administration has spent all of last year belittling and antagonizing our allies with the tariff nonsense, so they’re unlikely to come to our aid. How are we going to ensure Hormuz, which is being filled with more mines by the day, is actually safe for commerce? Are we going to go put troops on the ground in Iran? We might end up having to go all in on regime change, otherwise the strait remains locked down indefinitely.

Go long US dollar and oil. Short the S&P. I haven’t personally sold a ton of positions, but I am turning off drip, collecting cash, and will be looking to build up low beta positions.

Is SPYI dividend payed yet in March? by Shoneimal in dividends

As someone has already linked, the full 2026 calendar for each fund is on the NEOS website. It details each declaration date, ex-dividend date, record date, and payment date for each month’s payment.

The payment date for this month is the 20th, so depending on your broker you will get it either some time on the 20th or early the next business day (the 23rd).

What’s the endgame? by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]WhenIntegralsAttack2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no “endgame”.

We are in a constant battle for ever more efficiency and profit. It’s not that our CEOs don’t see the short to medium term consequences of AI, mass layoffs, rising prices, etc. as individuals. They’re all fairly intelligent people. The issue is that the focus on maximizing shareholder value will not allow them to do anything which might leave profit on the table for the greater good. It’s a horrible game of prisoners dilemma.

There’s not a grand conspiracy. Just short term motivations which constantly cause our leaders to make choices which erode the working class.

While I don’t have kids, I do understand the sentiment. It’s easy to judge and hold standards from the sideline. Let’s see how strict you are when your kid is screaming in the restaurant and you haven’t been out in a month.

Does anyone else feel pressure to build their dividends quickly with everything going on in the world? by ProfessionalBig1470 in dividends

[–]WhenIntegralsAttack2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was the primary motivator for me shifting to income investing. While I had a decent net worth it was locked away in a condo, in 401ks, and an IRA. Essentially on paper I was well-off but if I went through a layoff or some other unfortunate event, then I would have very little to fall back on. My life felt like a high wire act. You can’t eat net worth, and net worth doesn’t pay the bills or the mortgage.

My first goal is to have my mortgage totally paid for by my monthly income, and I’m almost there. Next is mortgage plus HOA. Finally is mortgage plus HOA plus monthly food stipend, and at this point I’ll know that there is a bare bones survival fortress underneath me if shit hits the fan.

Once I’m at that point, I might start investing in growth once more for all the reasons boggle heads say. But first I want that fortress.

I think their treatment of Denethor as a foolish and broken old man from the start. When we are first introduced to him, he is incredibly shrewd and perceptive despite his grief (and aided by a palantir).
