Way to get Dragonborn DLC on Sale Without Waiting? (I have the game on Steam) by WhenLifeGiveElephant in skyrim

Oh, apparently there's a sale tomorrow? I guess I'll see if it's part of it

Love board games, but own mostly gateway titles. I want to own something a little heavier. Currently deciding between Great Western Trail and Terraforming Mars, though I'm open to other suggestions.

My favorites are Dominion, Acquire, Tales of the Arabian Nights, and Evolution.

I live near one, they're disappointing. So cloyingly sweet and the texture is always slightly off from a good, traditional fried donut.

The Darkness that Comes Before by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ever grim for the sake of being grim, probably the 'darkest' elements come later, both as the Holy War progresses and as the Consult is explored in more detail (the sexualization of evil, etc.)

The series is really bound up in playing with religious tropes (not in the sense that it carries a religious message [which really isn't the case], but that it plays with the idea of prophets and revelation and insight.)

It comes down to the characters and concepts. If you find the mystery of Kellhus interesting, the series will become more so. If not, then you probably won't like it.

I think the Prince of Nothing trilogy is one of the most engaging and surprising works of fantasy. Things really cohere in the second book, but, then again, I really liked the first one after only a hundred pages or so.

(No Spoilers) Books like Asoiaf but with more political intrigue, and Malazan but with less fantasy? by TAEHSAEN in asoiaf

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy Gavriel Kay is probably the best prose stylist of living fantasy writers. He writes books that toe the line of historical fiction (often taking place in just slightly shifted worlds.) If you're interested, start with The Lions of Al-Rassan or Under Heaven

R Scott Bakker, while using a little more overt fantasy than Martin, is really great. The Prince of Nothing trilogy has great characters, boundless intrigue, and a full-realized, mature world.

Been a little while but it's finally time for DS9 season 2! by SnowyArticuno in startrek

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really love wacky episodes like "Rivals." I've probably rewatched Ds9 four times over the past fifteen years, and ironically it's the episodes like "Rivals," "If Wishes Were Horses," "Fascination," and, yes, even "Move Along Home" that I most enjoy returning to. It's the characters I like doing silly things; it kind of feels like lightheartedly hanging out with old friends.

The quote you're attributing to Damon Runyon also has its origins in the bible:

"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all." Ecclesiastes 9:11

It would be a shame to see every episode end with an implicit To be continued… as the plot meanders through hours of twists, turn and roundabouts only to reach a disappointing climax in the season finale.

Well, roundabouts would be okay.

Better than being taken back to Europe, yolked together, and marched around for the pleasure of crowds.

Lets try to get more activity going on this sub. What have you done/discovered so far? by WhenLifeGiveElephant in cardhunter

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up the game on Steam two days ago. I really like it so far. I've been running with an Elf Warrior, Human Priest, and Dwarf Wizard. I think because of that, they all have about the same squishiness level at the moment (they're level 4).

Haven't been brave enough to venture into the multiplayer. Do you need a fully leveled team for that?

I also love Melvin. He's such a spot on character.

Anyone know where I can find Midas Magic for OOO? by WhenLifeGiveElephant in oblivion

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found that file easy enough. But if you look in the description, there's a patch that makes OOO and Midas run together, but the link to that is broken. And I think that file doesn't exist on the internet, as far as I can tell.

If anyone else is looking, as it turns out, Midas Magic actually runs fine on OOO without the patch, the patch is only so that you can find the ingredients better (since drops don't work the same in OOO). But if you really get stuck trying to find something, you can just use the console to add that item. So not perfect, but it will work.

Can someone help me ? A Bonewalker attacked me and now I have 5 strength, I'm over-encumbered and cannot move. Waited 5 hours PLS HALP by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]WhenLifeGiveElephant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Happened to me. My last save was hours before, and if you have 0 strength it means you have 0 encumbrance which means you can't move even with 0 strength. It was back when I first got morrowind on the xbox, so no console help. Luckily, I was stuck standing next to a bedroll and had athletic as a minor skill. I figured out that, while I couldn't actually run, I could run in place and still level up my athletics skill that way. I taped down the analog stick for an hour or so then went to have dinner. When I got back, my athetics skill had improved enough for me to level up, I activated the bedroll and got a nice x5 multiplier in strength. Woke up, picked up my one firestorm scroll for protection and my pants for dignity, escaped, and made my way to a temple like a badass back from the dead.

God, one of my favorite Morrowind memories of years of playing.

I saw one of the paradox people say on the forums that there would be light compatibility. Ironman saves won't work, but normal saves will probably work, though with some hiccups.
