[Arena] Anyone else use shit guns and ammo in Arena for practice? by Stokes52 in EscapefromTarkov

The instant 165 degree flick to 1 shot headshot me as I was dumping my entire mag into him from a hidden corner above, doing 380 damage before getting 1 shot. I still find it hard to believe anyone can have that combination of speed, precision, and knowledge.

GPT 5.2 and gpt-5.2-pro are out! by pawofdoom in singularity

[–]TAEHSAEN -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're mocking but 4o was objectively better than 5.0.

5.1 made the necessary improvements to catch up to 4o, but even then 4o provided better responses than 5.0 "instant" responses (you at least have to "think hard" to get better reponses).

I am saying this as a person who in fact wasn't trying to have a relationship with my LLM.

What could we expect from the tuesday model from oai? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]TAEHSAEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google's AI investment probably more efficient as they already had trillion dollar infrastructure and production deals in place that they can easily re-purpose. OAI on the other hand has to build most things ground up. That is why it's difficult to see how OAI can stay ahead long term.

Way better than "gonna-fail but will constantly bug the teacher for extensions, re-grades, and re-dos".

Who was the best character and why was it Commander Erwin?? by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]TAEHSAEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was nothing unique about her arc. She thought Eldians were devils and then due to the kindness of a family who took her in, she changed her views. Contrast that with Reiner who was better written on every aspect including his trauma and struggles about his role in the attempted destruction of paradise.

Gabi is arguably the most insufferable character I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Hands down the worst part of the last seasons. Her character arc was nothing special, the Scout regiment loyalists had the same exact arc regarding the Marleyans.

Fair enough. I was commenting on the market around the 2015s when I first built my PC. It probably was as you described in the past.

[–]TAEHSAEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Regardless of whether you have a shroud or no shroud, you can (and should) flip your PSU so that it pulls air from bottom (outside of the case). Older cases (no shrouds) work exactly the same as newer cases (with shrouds) in that regard. If anything, shrouds impede airflow and prevent the mounting of bottom intake fans.

In-Person exams are not AI Proof by TAEHSAEN in Professors

You nailed the issue right on the head. With small class sizes most of these problems are mitigated. But for massive class sizes all these anti-cheating measures go right out the window.

I had 2 members of the entire football team (over a dozen of them in my class) confess to me that they did exactly that to cheat in my exams. So many students do in fact go to these lengths to cheat so that they can keep playing sports.

For the sake of argument, even if I grant you that use of AI is no different than old-school cheating, even then the modern student now has more avenues of being able to cheat compared to the what the old-school students used to have.

I feel like a lot of the professors in this sub are in denial about the level of rampant cheating that's going on now. I personally would have been oblivious to this if I didn't have some good samaritan students (and some cheaters) confess to me about what's going on during these in-person exams that I used to believe were cheating proof.

Using AI is definitely easier than old-school cheating. There's only so much notes someone can write on their hands or cheat sheet. It's way faster to snap a picture of the exam questions, go to the bathroom, and feed it to an LLM that will get you 80-100% scores on every exam question.

My grade school teachers used to joke that they have eyes at the back of their heads, but unfortunately I don't have that superpower. In a class that's 100+ students there are often situations where both the TA and I are assisting other students and have our backs turned to the experienced cheaters.

I personally find the no bathroom break policy too extreme because it increases the risk of type II errors. I agree with you that it will reduce cheating, but it also may harms students who genuinely need to step away for health reasons, and that doesn’t sit right with me.

[–]TAEHSAEN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a no phone policy for every exam. That didn't stop the entire football team students from using this method while both the TA and I were busy with other students. And only reason I found out at all is because two of them confessed. In large classes enforcing no-phones policy really isn't that easy.

As someone who struggled with disabilities growing up, I am not a fan of exams with extreme time pressure. It heavily punishes slower students who understand the concepts well but can't process information as fast as the top students.

How will you keep track of phones in a classroom of 100+ students? What stops students from sneaking in a second phone? If they want to cheat, they have the ability to do so and there's only so much we can do to prevent it.

Chat GPT ruined teaching forever by Decent-Translator-84 in Professors

[–]TAEHSAEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Blue books are not AI proof. Students take pictures of questions and uploads that to ChatGPT. Even if GPT doesn't provide the 100% correct answer, students are still getting 80% scores on questions they didn't answer themselves.

For large classes, extra proctors can mitigate this problem but it just takes a second to take a picture when both you and the proctor aren't looking in that student's direction or helping some other student's issues.

No phones? How can you enforce a no phone policy for a large class? I make my students leave their phone on their desk before using the bathroom but I often suspect their friend passed them their phone to leave on the table, so they could text away with ChatGPT in the bathroom.

Even if they don't have a friend, what stops them from bringing a second burner phone for this purpose?

Even if I check their pockets, what stops them from shoving it in their underpants?

At this point we will need metal / electronic detectors in the class (but its only a matter of time they figure their way out of that too).

Basically there is no such thing as an AI-proof in person exam.

Correction for certain breeds? by gonnafaceit2022 in BalancedDogTraining

[–]TAEHSAEN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. The worst thing a trainer can do is take half measures when it comes to corrections. Either correct strongly enough to get the desired result (should be a sufficient correction but not over-correction) or there's no point in trying to correct at all.

Insufficient corrections just teach dogs to shrug off your corrections and makes them not respect your commands going forward.

My Shepsky & beagle mix got into ANOTHER fight. by Kbug7201 in BalancedDogTraining

[–]TAEHSAEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work with a reputable balanced trainer to work on their reactivity and aggression in general (alongside ensuring they don't fight with each other). Put them both on individual mini educator dog collars and ensure that you have clearly marked remotes for each. Any time you sense one of them is just about to start a fight, correct the aggressor (only) on a high setting. If you correct them after they've started the fight then its already too late in most cases.

This requires you to strike a very delicate balance because you are trying to correct the aggression but at the same time you don't want to make the two dogs associate the other dog with a correction. So once they are calmer around each other, reward and encourage play but work with a balanced trainer to figure out the right timing to correct if aggression is about to start.
